IG Group 1st Quarter Results

#252652

Postby idpickering » September 19th, 2019, 10:05 am

Business performance

The business has performed well in the first quarter benefitting from growth in the number of active clients, and from increased client trading activity as a result of the favourable market conditions in August.

Revenue in Q1 FY20 was £129.1m, in line with the prior year. The ESMA product intervention measures relating to the provision of CFDs impacted just one month of trading in Q1 FY19.

Ex div 26 Sep 19 for a 30.24p dividend, paid 24 Oct 19

Share up over 8% as I type. That's a bit of a bugger, as I was topping up in two days. :D

Disappointing, but shares up?

Interim was up, final is down, result = the same as previous year, I believe.

Indeed Arb, last year interim was 9.69p, this year 12.96p. Final was 33.51p last year, and this year 30.24p.

See here for more details; https://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-sear ... ord-0.005p

I might go to plan B and not buy more of these in two days, change my investment date until next Friday. That'll make more dividend cash available too. I see a few investors are bailing out, but as a HYPer, I'm going to hold firm. Knee jerk reactions are not the way to HYP imho. This rise has made my mind up about not buying any more of this one tomorrow. I'd been Pickering about it. lol

Disappointing? The trading announcement was quite positive in my view.

As for the held annual div of 43.2p, that was mentioned earlier by the company so should not be a surprise, when they said this a few months ago:

The Board reiterates that the Company expects to maintain the 43.2p per share annual dividend until the Group's earnings allow the Company to resume progressive dividends.

At 625p that makes a forward yield assuming a continued held div of 6.9%, still well within HYP territory.

Thanks for your input Stephen. You might recall that I've not long since added these to my HYP, discussed here; viewtopic.php?f=15&t=19130

This rise has pushed the capital value of my IGG holdings up to the average value weighting, which is handy, so I shall sit back, hold, and let the dividends roll in.

I said disappointing, not surprising :) And I was referring only to the dividend being held - you may not think that is disappointing, but it's not great. Better than a kick in the divis, I'll grant you.

Likewise, IGG is now 13th in my topup table and has dropped out of the zone. Last topped up at the end of 2016 and early 2017. Since then there have always been other fish to fry.

Thanks Arb. Nice to know I’m in good company. My investment date has been moved to 27th of this month, and my account is set to buy top ups of WPP and Taylor Wimpey, bringing them up to average capital value weighting in my HYP. Both are ex div on 3 Oct, my birthday incidentally. :(

You might find by Monday that the exuberance has reduced and the price has come back.

Absolutely monabri, thank you. They are a fickle share, but I'm going to stick with my revised programme. I hold an ISA with Halifax, and their nearest monthly investment option gets invested on 27/9/19, the day after the IGG ex divi date. That's why I opted for the prior one, that being tomorrow. Either way, I'm not going to stress about this, and am happy to just stick on IGG.
