Carillion Joint Venture awarded HESTIA contract by Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) with a potential value of up to £200 million

"A Carillion Joint Venture, has been awarded the HESTIA South East and London Region Multi Activity Contract, one of the seven HESTIA contracts that will be awarded. This contract has the potential to generate in excess of £200 million across the initial contract period of five years, based on retail revenue projections.

Under the contract, the Carillion Joint Venture will deliver a range of soft facilities management services, including catering, retail and leisure, and hotel and mess services, for 87 key Defence sites across Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire and Central and Greater London. The contract will go live at the beginning of September 2017 and will employ over 1800 people.

This contract builds on the strong relationship that Carillion has established with the Ministry of Defence through its existing Next Generation Estates contracts with Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) that cover the provision of housing maintenance, design, construction and facilities management services across the UK. Well, it's not hugely significant, is it? Up to £200m over five years means that it's worth an average of at most £40m turnover per year for those five years, and with it being a joint venture, Carillion doesn't even get the benefit of all of that. That makes it certainly under (and probably well under) 1% of Carillion's >£5b turnover last year, and of course companies that are dependent on mainly finite-length contracts for their revenue need a steady supply of new ones to replace ones that have run their course. So personally, I would think of it as a "business as usual" announcement, and attribute today's small share price rise mainly to the fact that the market as a whole is up a bit.

Completely irrelevant news item. Minimal impact on financial results. Always nice to have a bit of good news - especially about the falling knife that is CLLN :shock:

The reason I put this item up in the first place was to highlight that despite the so performance they're still getting new contracts. We should think longer term that a momentary blip.

And here's another;

The University of Manchester selects Carillion as preferred bidder for £75 million student residences project

"The University of Manchester has selected Carillion as the preferred bidder to design and build Phase 1 of its new Fallowfield Student Residences project, which has an estimated construction cost of £75 million.

The University is significantly enhancing the student experience by re-planning and upgrading its Fallowfield Campus to provide a wide range of accommodation, study and support services. . Carillion will use its sector-leading position in delivering sustainable solutions to design and build the residences, which minimise environmental impacts while creating positive outcomes that support the University's objectives of promoting the health and wellbeing of students and a strong sense of community.

Phase 1 consists of 1,122 Cluster-Flat Study Bedrooms arranged in eight accommodation blocks together with an energy centre, student amenity hub and associated landscaping provision. The Cluster Blocks are typically four-storey residential units in various configurations, typically comprising ten bedrooms and a kitchen area on each floor. Carillion will develop final design and construction proposals, ahead of contract signature and a start of construction planned for August of this year, with completion scheduled for Summer 2019. "
