Hello Hypster, thanks for your post. I do get where you're coming from regarding Greene KIng, It's likely they'll be dumped tomorrow.
Ian.

Hi Ian,

I'm confused, Hypster said that he thought that topping up Greene King was a good idea; then you mentioned that you basically agree and that you'll dump them?

regards,
Darka

Hi Darka, with respect you misunderstood my comment. I said I got where Hypster was coming from, and then said they were likely to be dropped, which I just did.

Sorry, I forgot a bit. Next month I'm looking at bringing ITV on board. A new sector for me.

As I mentioned in another thread, I was able to buy a slice of ITV yesterday as well. This will be brought up to nearer average capital value weighting next month. Current media sector weighting (ITV) being 1.3% of the HYP whole.

Further to my bringing ITV on board my HYP as discussed, holders might like to know that Barclays has upgraded ITV, but down graded WPP.

Advertising market 'is improving', Barclays upgrades ITV but cuts WPP

Advertising is improving in the UK and media buyers are revising up their expectations for 2018, Barclays reported, leading to it upgrading ITV and lifting its share price target but downgrading WPP.

Barclays lifted ITV to an 'overweight' rating from 'equal weight' and raised its price target to 200p from 190p due to the improving UK advertising momentum and with its current valuation felt to be ignoring the non-television businesses

ITV up 3% as I type.

Difficult at first glance to understand the rationale for the downgrade for WPP: if the advertising market is improving then surely WPP as one of the largest, most diverse intermediaries in that market should be likely to do well. Bizarre.

The linked article seems to have some missing threads to various thoughts, as thought we have come into a room in the middle of a conversation.

"If clients get the same service from agencies on lower fees in 2017, then why won’t they lower fees again in 2018?"

Er? Follow this line an fees will hit zero at some time in the future. i.e. there's something missing here!

Eh? Numbers can go down forever without hitting zero. Basically, all you need to do is start with a positive number and decrease it by the same percentage (> 0% and < 100%) of its current value each year. E.g. with 50%, the sequence 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, ... continues forever without ever hitting zero.

That example gets arbitrarily close to zero, but one could for instance add 1 to every term in the sequence to produce a decreasing sequence 2, 1.5, 1.25, 1.125, 1.0625, ..., that never even reaches 1 and so is always more than 1 away from zero.
