I took a quick look at companies whose shares are more than 5% shorted: I haven't filtered for what is currently or historically a HYP candidate; if you have one or more of the below you might want to keep a weather eye on it ;)

TULLOW OIL PLC 14.01%

TELIT COMMUNICATIONS PLC 8.70%
MITIE GROUP PLC 8.31%
PREMIER OIL PLC 7.76%
PETROFAC LTD 7.53%
AGGREKO PLC 7.48%
FOXTONS GROUP PLC 7.42%
NCC Group PLC 7.15%
SAINSBURY (J) PLC 6.40%
ULTRA ELECTRONICS HLDGS PLC 6.40%
IMAGINATION TECH GROUP PLC 6.36%
J.D. WETHERSPOON PLC 5.98%
ANGLO AMERICAN PLC 5.69%

Great post, very useful.

So many dogs it looks like a kennel.

Glad to say I don't own any.

Interesting view though, thanks

very useful post .

i'm surprised morrisons are near the top of the list , but glad i can still reduce the holding at a profit .

having said that , i cant see much wrong with morrisons otherwise .

much more worrying is NEXT which has drooped alarmingly and relentlessly - another of woodfords duds.

:(

M&S is the one that concerns me: less than 3% short during 2016, rising steadily all this year to currently just over 10%. Not a mystery like Carillion, but a serial disappointer on the high street that almost, but not quite, gets its act together before falling back.

I bought MKS in October 2009 and am showing a XIRR of 3.3%, with a 5 year dividend CAGR of 6.6%, (7.1% since purchase, so increases have slowed in the last 5 years). So, a capital disappointment*, but a dividend workhorse.

*yes, I know.....
