Quick work from DWP !!!

#215400

Postby robbelg » April 16th, 2019, 1:19 pm

My mother died over a year ago, yesterday I received a letter from DWP requesting repayment of some of her pension!

Fair enough there was an overpayment, but more than a year to notice!

£484 is not a trivial amount ( not that I'm going to go hungry over it ) but more importantly I'm annoyed and a little upset.

Rob, not sure this is of help but a similar case was recently raised here:

According to this article, there is a two-faceted approach!

Best wishes.

Re-reading the letter it does say "ask" not demand or require.

But my main point was - more than a year later !

A month or two, or even three I would have paid it without thinking about it, now I think I'll just ignore it.

Discussed on Moneybox a few weeks ago. It seems DWP request repayment once and if the letter is ignored that's the end of it. I think I remember the story was about a grand daughter who was unemployed and an estate with no residue. Girl felt she had to repay the DWP and I think pay for the funeral.
