Are you sure there is no recourse? Have a look at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limitation_Act_1980
It looks to me that in the event of fraud the limitation period starts from when the fraud becomes evident.
This assumes that Boodles (or their successor) is still in business and you have some one to sue.

Re: When Platinum isn't Platinum (jewellery)
Is it the case that it's actually illegal for a jeweller to sell a hallmarked ring that's not 100% the stated metal? Maybe it is, I don't know.
However if not, the jeweller could say that what you suspect they did was exactly what you asked for. And imply your memory of the request has faded as the years passed.
Scott.

Mrs Bloggs has found the original receipt from 1985, shock horror Amazing since we normally can't find the receipt for stuff we bought a couple of days ago
I am genuinely impressed...I doubt I have piece of paper now that relates to 1985!
This may be useful reading.

It appears that these things are taken very seriously.

You're welcome...all part of the service!
Actually Mrs RS has a platinum engagement ring from Boodles...I might check it when she gets home...or maybe not!
