#131700

Postby AleisterCrowley » April 12th, 2018, 3:10 pm

Usual dates, early May bank hol weekend - 3rd-Sun 6th May
https://readingbeerfestival.org.uk/

I may pop along on the Friday, but the priority access tickets are not cheap at £20+ (with free beer and a glass)
Note that the rail network looks to be in disarray on the Sat/Sun based

Well, in an attempt to 'get out in the fresh air more'* - I've bought a Friday ticket.
Anyone else going ? I will not be wearing my lemon Fool badge...
The beer list looks interesting, and I will hopefully get my obligatory pint of Purple Moose Ysgawen
Worth reiterating that Pad<>Reading trains are not running over the weekend

My local is running its annual Beer Festival this weekend. I intend to go every day...it's a five minute walk so no brainer.

They are indeed and the Grapefruit Crush is one of my recent favourites of theirs. Red Cat was the star of the local beer festival this weekend with 9 different beers available. It helps that the owner of Red Cat is the son of the landlord of the pub hosting the event. Had a chat with their brewmaster yesterday while he was helping out flipping burgers (he is better at brewing than burger flipping though...some the the burgers were looking a bit over done to me!

My daughter has been working 14 hours shifts there since Friday...last day today and it looks like another scorcher! Interesting there are still considerable numbers of people drinking pints of Amstel and Kronenberg and even more strangely, Speckled Hen! Daughter also says that despite having about 30 local ciders available the Stowford Press is still popular! Philistines!

Yesterday I had an Advent Horizon from Good Chemistry Brewing of Bristol...the beer from furthest away at this event! Very good but perhaps just a little heavy for the hot day. Then tried a much lighter Jenny Wren from Betteridges of Hurstbourne Tarrant (could be the protagonists of a Agatha Christie whodunnit) but this was a pale ale with a single NZ hop, Nelson Sauvin, very refreshing. Followed that with a Moondance from tripleFFF just down the road from Alton 4.2% hoppy pale with Cascade hops...again very refreshing on a 23c sunny day!

Waiting for the 12 noon opening today to see what's on.

John

Interesting side factoid...my daughter tells me that got through 200 kilos of chips yesterday!

They've certainly had good weather for it. Best early May Bank holiday I can remember. I enjoyed the Red Cat stuff at Reading. Grapefruit Crush and Art of T (checked my notes!)
Been down in Windsor, no beer as working tomorrow :-(
Full of bl***y tourists...

Two of my favourites, the last few weeks it has been either one of those two or my usual Red Cat Prowler for my Tuesday night poker session.
Nectar!
