2016 Echo Falls Merlot. OK?

Just found a bottle hiding in amongst my son's Fentimans Curiosity Cola.

It was probably brought over by a family member for a Sunday Luch because on the odd occasion I buy red wine, it wouldn't be that.

But, should it be drinkable?
Does it need to be allowed to breath, despite the screw top?

Would it be better as a spritzer?

How has it been stored? If in a cool dark place with little temperature variation it should be fine.

Yes, cupboard under the stairs which is always coolest place in the house.

Might crack it open tonight.

I should have reported back after trying it.

I don't think that it had gone off, but I didn't think much of it, not enough to drink more than a glass.
Adding fizzy water made no improvement and mixing with lemonade just spoiled the lemonade.

Most of it went down the sink.

I once discovered (or rather, uncovered) a bottle of wine from the 1930's. At the time that was about 50 years old.

It had been in a cool place (cellar).

It was utterly undrinkable but might have been useful for clearing out drains.

With you so far. Well, I don't think I'd've tried those mixers, but each to his own. And I don't know if I'd dislike it, though it's not something I'm likely to sample unless someone else is choosing.

Most of it went down the sink.

Aaargh! What's wrong with it as a cooking ingredient?

If I won't drink it, I won't cook with it.

Also I can't use red in cooking any more as red wine gives Mrs S migraine :(

Well, vinegar is a valid cooking ingredient, but not one that you would drink.... My most expensive vinegar was some late-60's Ch Margaux.... :(
