Mouton Cadet 2015?

I am a bear of very little brain, when it comes to red wines.

I have been given a bottle of this and am wondering if it is a drink it now wine, or if I should leave it for a while longer to mature?

I also wonder if I'm likely to like it, my normal go to red being a Barolo. When I drink the occasional red.

I think you're underselling yourself. If you only normally drink Barolo, I for one am impressed - if you're not going to drink much wine, only drink good stuff because life is too short is my motto!

Looks like Mouton Cadet is a cheap Bordeaux (£10 or so is VERY cheap for Bordeaux) so I would drink it now. It will probably keep on a wine rack in a cool dark place for a 2-3 years, if you can't bear to drink it just yet . There's not many red wines I dislike more than cheap red Bordeaux but I hope you enjoy it.

I discovered Barolo when out for a meal with an Italian chap from that region and found that I like it very much.

And Piemonte is a lovely part of Italy. I went on a walking holiday in the region several years ago. Walking between the Barolo villages through the vineyards, stopping oiff for tastings along the way, then in the evening eating the local food with Barolo wines in Michelin starred restaurants in Castles.... Ah, what a fantastic holiday that was. I've loved Barolo, Barbera and the occasional bottle of Dolcetto ever since.

If you ever reach the stage (god forbid!) that you can't afford Barolo then there are some really nice Langhe Nebbiolo's which are the next rung down on the price ladder i.e. sub £20. The Vajra one that the Wine Society sell is a very good example.
