I woke up the next morning and remembered what I had been drinking. I think.

Wouldn't that make it The Pisswater You Are Recycling Right Now?

STF Collaborate Heavy

https://untappd.com/b/simple-things-fer ... my/5296386

It hits my 1970s trained Scottish taste buds., catch is local stockist is out , as am I, so will need to search for some.

I also like their Belgian Christmas beer,

https://www.beerguild.co.uk/news/stf-st ... christmas/

Everyday lager (summer) tends these days to be Hofbrau Original, though a Weissbier may be drunk sometimes, but only sometimes, two of them seems to be my limit

https://hofbraeu-muenchen.bierselect.de/Biere

https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/ ... lsrc=3p.ds

And if driving Guiness Zero is the way to go, the best non beer beer I have yet tasted.

It is possibly similar to worshiping Satan in a church my saying this, but I am just not that keen on English bitter, I do not like the hoppy taste. (Scots have a sweet tooth)

So- I am now heading outside to my smoking shed for a Belgian Winter Beer , a cigar and maybe a small snifter of whisky.

We've found a great CAMRA pub, where all the beers are superbly kept, and bar staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Always several good choices, and a strong element of serendipity 'cos they routinely change from week to week.

I don't always remember the names of beers I encounter there, but two of this weeks great pints were Hanlons Simcoe IPA and South Hams brewery's Eddystone. And a richer, very smooth and slightly darker pint whose name completely escapes me.

Kent Brewery. Brewers Reserve. IPA style 5%. Supped in the best little pub in town. Stunning.

That is exactly what I am drinking now - Saxon Strong brewed by Mighty Oak. Only the healthy stuff for me!

It's raining. It's cold. Nights start at 16.00.
It has to be Fullers 1845.
But I have also just received an assorted case of Hobsons (of Cleobury Mortimer); their Dhustone Stout and Postman's Knock Porter were well worth a sup.

Fuller's Golden Pride too I think. 8.5 per cent though.

The 1845 is a regular fav of mine, I've not tried the Golden Pride, I do enjoy the stronger ales but usually prefer amber and dark to golden. The Duvel is a light coloured low malt at 8.5% which I tuck into. At 3 for a fiver I can try a drop and detour to Waitrose next time I'm out and about.

Interesting. When I lived in Scotland in the 1970s, I found most cask beers too heavy and a bit sickly for my taste. I had moved up from near Burton on Trent in the days when draught Bass tasted markedly dry-hopped (luvvvverly) and 'spirity'.
The one Scottish beer that I found quite drinkable was the session Belhaven (Best?) that was much more like the Burton stuff I had grown to like.

Given the unpleasant weather, I am contemplating just one or two several Chimay Blues to preserve my equanimity.

I quite like Golden Pride - it's my usual drink at a Fuller's pub I go to in Newbury - it's reasonably priced (for a pub) compared with the draught bitters
Only a couple of bottles though so I don't fall in the canal

Ah... Golden days.
I remember Whitbread's Gold Label - to be treated with caution as it was at times over 11% ABV and was good for after-snow-shovelling as an alternative to a (relatively) small Laphroaig or Ardbeg.

I tried one recently: barley wine? what??? Must consult the dictionary.
Sugary, syrupy and with an ABV rivalled by Severn Trent's Value tap-water.

All too many years ago, when I lived just outside Burton on Trent and could acquire (don't ask) decent malt and hops, I used to brew my own barley wine (all malt; no sugars) that needed a year or so to be drinkable.
I brought some once when on a Xmas visit to a friend.
Q (friend): Top-up please? I could drink a gallon of this.
A (me - pouring top-up): No you couldn't.
Q (friend): Why not? Be a bit drunk perhaps
A (me): You wouldn't be drunk, you'd be dead

This evening at our superb beer pub, it was a new (to me) revelation. A couple of pints of Greene King Yardbird. An easy-drinking pale ale with a lovely middling flavour. Just right to refresh the vocal tract after singing. From a brewery one associates with their mainstream take-it-or-leave-it IPA and Abbott - the latter a former regular from my time in its backyard many years ago.

BrewDog Black Heart Draught.
I am surprised that they have gone up against Guinness but they've turned my head with it, it has an in can widget. I tried it mid December and it is my current 4 pack choice.
