I've got a thumpin' head today. Didn't have the Brain's porter, so have to blame it on the half bottle of Malbec....

I'm heading off to Windsor/Eton for a hair of the dog later, see what new stuff W&E brewery have on in the George

Mad Goose and Ubu are excellent beers.

Was up in Leicester Friday in the Blue Boar and a newish place called Broood - which is a crap name - but is a proper pub. Enjoyable few beers.

It's looking to be a great week end.

My wife has a significant Birthday tomorrow ( it ends in a "5" ). When asked how she would like to celebrate she asked for a trip to the Bristol Beer Festival :-)

Last night was a trip to see John Cooper Clarke down here in deepest Dorset. Popped in to the excellent "Taphouse", just a few metres from the Theatre and found out it was A: Happy Hour and B: they had the excellent "Corbel" from our local Eight Arch Brewery all at £2.75 a Pint.

Were both looking forward to a leisurely week end in Bristol, with a trip to the Beer Festival tomorrow and some exploring of the local pubs.

Reminder to self, Don't forget the Birthday Card :-)

Heriot Watt University Brewing Society's 33rd Annual Charity Beer Festival today and tomorrow.

Less than 30 minutes walk from my front door and I've never been before, I'll give it a go tonight.

Scott.

Lost two stone ie just under 14kg in new money since mid January, when in York I saw myself in a full-body mirror and almost lost my chicken kebab dinner right there and then.

Walked to the post office the other day, had no belt, kept my hands in the pockets in order to keep my jeans up. Just when I invested all this dosh on 38" trousers.

I am gagging for a beer, and food, but have to wait till tomorrow.CAMRA's Newcastle beerfestival on at the moment, instead I am painting another wall in a hallway (feature wall) in order to think beer today as little as possible. Redcurrant colour, more like lingonberry with a touch of burgundy.

A school-boy error. Jambalaya Creole style (with tomato products mind you) done and opened up a bottle of Duvel - this devious beer is luring me to take a bus and go to a micropub near the big church. Perhaps the Canadian PhD lassie is working today. I am so sad. So sorry.

No more dilly-dallying, put on my jeans and off I go and leave the safety of my bungalow - I have to face the outside world one day anyway, say one of my parents died, as the oldest sibling I would have to be there to take the brunt, the monetary hit would be annoying to say the least.

Worse than suggesting someone from Sunderland 'sounds like a Geordie'?

I'd like to but am too old to name the lovely, yes, lovely beers I had, they are on my "moleskine" which was ridiculed in another thread, so from now on I'll just keep my beers to myself, close to my chest, and my throat where they belong.

Bought some malt whisky from Master of Malt and added a few weird beers in aswell. Crazy amount of packaging so I won't be doing that again. Out of interest the whisky's were Lagavulin 16 Year Old and Green Spot Single Pot Still. But now I've started on the beers. First of was Floris Mango. And yes, it really does have mango juice in it. £2.10 for the bottle and it's a lightweight 3.6% which I guess is not surprising with 30% juice in. TBH it was pretty decent and if you like fruit beers (I sort of do) I am sure you will find it nice to drink and a little unusual. The mango isn't as strong as you may think, which is no bad thing.

Tonight I am drinking Vedett IPA which was £1.99. It's from the Duvel brewery weighing in at 5.5%. It's got spice. Light golden with a touch of haze. Smooth, hoppiness is subtle by modern standards - but not bad for it. Bit perfumery, citrussy. Not as Extra Ordinary as they want you to believe but a decent effort.

London Pride, out of a plastic disposable "glass". £5.

Why do people at gigs, only some gigs mind, decide the best thing to do with their beer/lager/cider is to chuck it in the air? I mean, the Pride wasn't great, but it wasn't *that* bad. It's probably £1 at least they're spraying over everyone else. Value for money? Sticky neck and back by the end, quite disgusting. Good night though.

And yes, I'm definitely assuming it wasn't piss. It's not the 80s, it wasn't a festival, and we weren't that far from the bogs.

ye gods, what gig were you at ?
If someone threw beer over me, I'd get my valet to hold my jacket and I'd give them a punch on the jolly old hooter. The cads

It wasn't exactly punk rock, only The Vaccines at Ally Pally. They were fantastic, though I obviously like them anyway to go and see them, honestly one of the best gigs I've been to in absolute years. Anyway, beer...what it is, I think, is drunk people having the last inch or so in their cup and luzzing it as high and as far as they can in the air. In exuberance. Maybe turning into some sort of "thing" with their mates. So it's not like some twonk pouring their pint on you, more like a light beer shower. though if you're unlucky, you can get a fair splash. Dirty looks behind me did not establish a culprit.

They're supposed to be good - I think I've missed them at at least one festival (due to schedule clashes)
