alcoholic units app?

#92040

Postby didds » October 31st, 2017, 12:34 pm

DAK know of a windows app that "counts" units?

something like entering

0.5 pint - 4.9% ... and it then
- indicates units
- keeps track of units so can show how many in a day/week/month etc ?

merely counting "pints" is meaningless as the strength varies and I'm looking fro an accurate measure not a finger in the air "weak beer", "strong beer" approach.

For my sins my phone is a windows phone (employer supplied). drinkaware have an app but only for IoS and Android.

As it turns out there may be an online tool on the drinkaware site - in fact most of the drinkaware site is broken it seems and its not available.

cheers

One alcohol unit is measured as 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol, dead easy to calculate. 1cc of water weighs 1 gramme. Then its easy to mark say 125 cc on a glass and easily calculate how many units you are consuming from the % printed on the wine bottle. We have a spirits measure which was suppled with a Schweppes tonic bottle, dead easy to keep things under conttol using that. One large glass of 14% white wine puts you over the drink drive limit. I have watched numerous ladies swig a couple and weave off in their cars.

I have a simple system whereby I add the ABVs of each half-pint I drink. For example, a half of Moorhouse's Black Cat plus a half of Harvey's Old Ale plus a half of Green Jack Baltic Trader would be 3.4 + 4.3 + 10.5 = 18.2. When I can't add up any more, I know I have had enough.

If you are counting units, multiply this figure by 0.284. In the above example, I would have consumed about 5.2 units.

If you always drink pints, add the numbers and multiply by 0.568.

Note that Carling drinkers should use 3.7%, not 4.0% when doing this calculation, on the back of: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 14731.html, which means each pint is 2.1 units rather than the 2.3 that Molson-Coors would have you believe...

I suspect that didds has a windows phone and is seeking a phone app. Something akin to alcodroid.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... d&hl=en_GB

As it happens I recently downloaded that app and haven't felt a need to look for an alternative.
If drinking the same thing then enter the details 1'st time then tap the box when you fill your glass.

DON'T do as I did fill the details in on the assumption that you will drink the bottle, the graph looks terrible!

Anyway, sorry didds, I don't know a winphone app.

In the absence of an app it would be pretty straightforward to create a spreadsheet (Google Sheets or your choice of alternative) which just took the basic info (pint of 4% or whatever) and "tot"ted it up. Then have a link to it on your home screen for easy access.
