Works for me. Gets me a page with a "Download This File" button which when clicked opens up for a short captcha, and if I enter that and click the "Download Now" button it downloads your jpg.

(I don't have a File Dropper account)

Nope, there's nothing wrong with it, just your use of it. It's HTML for embedding into HTML, and the bulletin board system TLF uses doesn't allow that. Anyway, it only gives a graphic link to the same page as the other textual link (the one that works fine for me). Like this ...

Thanks for the filedropper testing last night - I'm glad to see it's working as expected, although it clearly could do with some finer instructions if it's not absolutely clear what the process is.

For the avoidance of doubt then, here's some instructions on how to use filedropper to host a file and also how to post a URL link to that file in Lemon Fool threads -

1. Go to the http://www.filedropper.com/ website

2. Select the 'Upload File' button on the above page. It looks like this -

Image

3. You'll then be presented with a file-explorer window where you should select the local file that you want to upload. Browse for the file, select it in the file-explorer window, and then select the 'Open' button on the explorer window.

4. The file will be uploaded to the filedropper website, and once the upload is 100% complete you'll then be presented with a new page that contains the following section -

Image

5. Use your mouse to left-click inside the box underneath the 'Link to share this file with anyone' text. When you left-click in the box, all of the text within it should change colour to indicate that the whole text field is in 'selected' mode -

Image

6. With the text highlighted, as above, you can either perform a right-click of the mouse on the highlighted text and select the 'COPY' option from the right-click context-menu, or you can simply use CTRL-C on your keyboard to copy the highlighted text onto your local PC clipboard.

7. When the above text-copy process has been completed, you can verify that you can now download the file yourself, before you post a link to it in a Lemon Fool post, by first opening up a new tab in your web browser.

8. With a new tab open in your web-browser, right-click and PASTE, or use the CTRL-V option to paste the link on your clipboard into the URL box of your new browser tab. You may want to clear any existing URL link information related to the new tab before you do this.

9. When you now navigate to the link provided in Step 6 above, that you've just pasted into your new tab URL box, you should be presented with a web-page that contains the following 'Download this file' button -

Image

10. Select the above 'Download this file' button, and you'll then be presented with a verification-screen similar to this one -

Image

11. Enter the text shown on the graphic area into the box above the 'Download Now' button (as shown in the example above), and then select the 'Download Now' button.

12. You should now be presented with a local file-open window, where you can usually either 'Open' the file directly if you've got a compatible method of doing so, or you can also use the 'Save File' option to save the file to a local place on your PC.

13. Hopefully at this point you've now verified that the file is correctly hosted on the filedropper website, so you can now use the URL link that should still be copied onto your local PC clipboard (from Step 6 above), and insert that URL link into a Lemon Fool post to enable others to access the file.

As an aside, if you're posting links to files like this, it's probably going to be worthwhile making use of the Lemon Fool 'Preview' process, so that you can verify the validity of any file-links you post before submitting the post to Lemon Fool.

You can compose your post as normal, including the necessary filedropper link, and then when you 'Preview' the Lemon Fool post, you could right-click the filedropper URL to your file and carry out an 'Open link in new tab' option (or whatever your browser equivalent is..), and then go through the above process from Step 9, just to make sure that anyone then reading your post will be able to download the file as expected.

Hope the above helps. If anything isn't as clear as it could be, then please just let me know.

The above process might seem daunting when viewed as detailed, granular steps as above, but it's really quite simple once you've given it a go.

Cheers,

Itsallaguess

Bumped with a peabottle reply -

Peabottle - you should now be able to post links, and I've left some instructions on the use of the filedropper website here for you to work through -

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=10880&p=129398#p129398

Hope this helps, but please just let me know if there's any further issues.

Cheers,

Hi,
Hopefully the file above can now be viewed, any feedback would be appreciated.

I see it's a JPEG image, if you'd mentioned that in the first instance then there are easier ways of posting images, even embedding them in posts.

No matter, it's progress anyway.

It might be better if you continued by reposting on the original thread, if there was one, as presumably it's more relevant to the subject at hand.

Scott.

EDIT: I see you have. Ignore this.

Please have a quick read through the Rules regarding images, here is the relevant section:

All embedded images (including data and graphs) in posts must:-
Include an additional link (URL) to a web page where the original may be viewed in context, or (where the image is hosted on either a domain owned or controlled by the poster, or a hosting site account e.g. Imgur, Picasa, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive) be followed by a statement that the poster owns (or is legally permitted to post) the content of the image. If this is later to be found to be incorrect, appropriate action will be taken by administrators. Images which do not comply with these requirements may be removed without warning.

Regards,
Chris

IAAG - I got as far as your number 11 and then it asked me to create an account.

Btw, I did use preview, but I wanted to post my results as they were.

I don't understand phrases like 'embedded code' or 'HTML hosted' etc etc, none of that means anything to me - the picture is either there, or it's not :)

I'm not sure what's going on there Mel - I've done multiple tests and I always see the 'OPEN / SAVE-AS' file-option window on my PC when following the same process.

My understanding is that embedded in this sense means the picture actually appears as you view the post and hosted means a link is seen which, when clicked, takes the user to another website where the picture can be seen.
