Ignore
Is there a way of 'Ignoring' posts by some users so that you don't see them? I believe there was on TMF (I never used it) but don't see such a mechanism on TLF.
This is very untypical for me. I usually don't mind pretty well seeing anyone's posts on BBs and don't hide any, but the time may have come...

Re: Ignore
The problem with doing that is that whilst you won't see what that person said directly, you will still see references to it when it is requoted by others, or when their ideas are discussed down-thread. And you might end up being talked about whilst being powerless to intervene.
So particularly on a board like Polite, where people habitually requote entire posts, it won't help you much.
Or you see a thread with so much hidden from you that it doesn't make much sense.
The simplest approach is to exercise some discipline. If you don't like a particular poster, or they send your blood pressure boiling, then just don't read their posts, and certainly do not reply to them.

Re: Ignore
The feature I'd like is the ability to ignore a thread, such that when people post to it it doesn't show as and unread message, which can be tedious when a busy thread, that is of no interest to you, is the only active thread on a board that interests you.

Re: Ignore
What I do is to click on "Unread messages" in Quick Links above.
I only read the threads which I want to. Then mark all read.

You want to try being a mod - if I leave a mod box on some thread I'm not interested in, it is then in notifications for ever more. And obviously there are quite a few plus the ones I do comment on, or ones I do comment on but don't want to follow forever etc. I've not found a way to turn this off.

Re: Ignore
Mel, if you click on the notification, it takes to to the post concerned. Doesn't the notification then get marked as read?
It doesn't disappear from the list, of course.

Yes, of course, and you can in fact click the little tick to show it 'read' without going to the post - but it's a pain in the proverbial when you're trying to scroll down a list of notifications on the phone, on the train (if it ever arrives in the first place).

Re: Ignore
I do it a different way. I don't have any notifications at all for comments made by others on threads I've edited (or made comments on)..I get notifications when quoted, or for PMs, or for user reports and that's it. If I make a comment on a thread then I just visit it again from time to time to see what the responses to my post there might be. After a while I stop visiting it. C.

Re: Ignore
I've found out how to do it - if you go to the topic, at the top is a spanner, if you click on that the top option is 'subscribe' or unsubscribe', depending whether you already are or not.
I found it while trying to work out something else!
So, where I have added a mod note recently, I am 'subscribed' and have clicked 'unsubscribe'. I assume I will still get a notification if I am quoted.

Re: Ignore
I'm subscribed to a couple of topics, but I did those explicitly. I don't think I've ever found myself subscribed to a topic through posting or editing there. C.
