Re: Beerpigs Snug
I didn't comment at the time about the world cup thread, but I did find it irritating that it wasn't in the Sports Bar and I'd keep having to Mark All Posts Read after reading something that was of interest to me.
Surely, as there is a sports bar, sports discussion should be there and not in the Snug?

Perhaps it is a sign of how intrinsically uninteresting cycling is as a sport that people in the UK just do not seem that interested in it despite it being one of the very few sports that the UK excels at, competitively and globally.
Perhaps only Formula One comes close in that regard, and that is popular, despite the fact that millions cycle recreationally and very few people drive racing cars.
Watching someone ride a bike just isn't that gripping.

i can vaguely understand the interest in track cycling, you see the whole race from start to finish. But, road racing like the TdF, you stand at the side of the road waiting for hours, then a bunch of riders go zooming past within a minute or so, and that's it.

Hardly on topic but I enjoy watching the TdF highlights for the scenery.
There is, of course, the dedicated Cycling board where various matters have been discussed (including the TdF), so there is some interest and Snorvey has posted there (> 40 posts to date):
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=11920
The Sports Bar Topic only had one reply, as Snorvey indicates viewtopic.php?f=35&t=12730

Re: Beerpigs Snug
A small thing has been naggling at me and I feel the need to add something.

"Back on TMF The Snug was NOT LoOTP. It'd just be nice to have that leeway back."
I wasn't entirely sure what he meant as I didn't visit the Snug much on TMF and the Snug here seems very unrestricted to me. But I wanted to add - TLF is different to TMF. The funding, such as it is, comes partly, a small part I gather, from user donations and then mainly from Google advertising. Google advertising works by plopping bots onto the pages which monitor what is being posted. If the bots pick up certain things, or a lot of some things, then Stooz gets warnings saying that advertising will be withdrawn or only limited advertisers will want to place ads.
Anything that looks like hate speech, anything to do with gambling (this is actually relevant to the SPOTY thread), anything porn related, to do with terrorism etc - and probably a lot of things we don't even know about - will/could get advertising removed or reduced. That would then put the whole site at risk.
I know we have explained this before but there are bound to be people who did not see it. We mods have been 'briefed' on this, and it is in the Rules above, so if the moderation looks strict, at times this is why.
I think nearly two years on the comparisons to TMF need to reduce a bit, we need to plough our own furrow a bit.
But the Snug is still the place for light-hearted banter, I tend to think that includes sport though even though we have a sports bar. It's not hard to scroll past a thread/topic (if people give them useful titles). Un-lightearted non-banter/rants need to go on Polite Discussions or Bitter Lemons unless there is a more relevant specific board.

Might the inclusion of some of those words in your post be noticed by the bots (I've redacted all of them in my reply)?
With reference to the "Rules", for those who've yet to read them, they include:
Links to gambling sites are prohibited.

Re: Beerpigs Snug
I doubt a minor mention of it would do - with some things it's 'any mention' causes a problem, with some it's more - they look for repeated mentions. I think. The algorithms of Google bots are a bit beyond my understanding

That is a specific rule of google ads. And dead easy for their bots to check.
As regards the TdF, I find it incredibly dull to watch live. It is a great advert for edited highlights. Years ago Ch4 used to do a daily 30 minutes highlights program. All the day's action compressed into a 30 minutes could be quite interesting. But 4 hours... Zzzz.
In F1 Brits win because we have the best cars. In Cycling, I still harbour a horrible suspicion Brits win because we have the best drugs. Sports cycling is so tainted by drugs I find it very hard to get excited about.

Despite appearances to the contrary, this isn't Beerpig's nor the Sports Bar nor Cycling.
The Tour de France is nowadays available via http://www.itv.com/tourdefrance/ but I've only found 3 minute highlights so far. Maybe the ITV Hub has longer highlights.

Try ITV4 nightly highlights programme 19.00-20.00 with Gary Imlach and Chris Boardman.

Cheers, thanks, but we are usually doing something else at that time and prefer catch up if possible, especially for the mountain passes and pause is available.
