Farewell

I am not planning to fall off my perch any time soon but I am withdrawing from posting on these Boards. I no longer feel welcome so some will I have no doubt be very pleased about that. I am grateful for the 499 thanks I have received in this guise and probably about the same in my previous guise as dod1010. Good luck to all of you.

Dod's farewell.

I tried to reply to the thread Farewell just now, only to find the topic locked.
I assume this is because it is off topic, however there are precedents for allowing members to encourage others to stay, or to give support. To prevent us from doing so I regard as an inhuman and thoughtless piece of moderation.

I noticed there was no "Mod Box" explaining the reasoning.

But perhaps this/that discussion should be in the Biscuit Bar, since Dod's stated reason was moderation? With a X-post here?

"I no longer feel welcome ...... Dod"

Well, you're wrong! ;)

One of if not the best poster. I really feel the moderation is OTT on here. Here comes my ban.

As a lurker - I have really enjoyed reading Dod's postings, and I will miss his contribution if he does decide to leave.
I didnt know it was because of moderation until I read this thread.

I suspect many more of us simply read posts rather than actively participate.

I for one appreciate Dod's view on investment matters and if he leaves this forum it will be poorer for it.

I have always looked forward to Dod101's posts' for the no nonsense advise and erudite insight into investment matters.
Please please reconsider Dod.

The reason I started thread, Dod's Farewell is that I was amazed and frustrated that I couldn't post on Dods on thread to give him support. At least we have a thread we can post on now, but this rather misses the point. It ought to be possible to have some leniency in a case where we are supporting or talking to one of our own board.
However, here is my original disallowed post:

"Sorry I don't understand and I'm quite baffled. Are you serious? I've enjoyed reading your posts and have benefitted from your views. I've not always agreed with you, but that's a different matter: I've always liked your thought provoking comments.
I would say we NEED you, so please do not throw in the towel. I don't know what the watershed moment was for you, but I'm very sure that you have more supporters than detractors."

OK Well maybe I just need a bit of time out but the mods in my opinion are way over the top. I find that I cannot make even the most modest comment but am being pulled up. Mel was the one yesterday and today would you believe he who I think of as one of the more sensible posters, TJH was making the same threatening comments. 'You need to be careful' or words to that effect. We are not kids being let off the leash.

As I have said on several occasions, they are judge jury and executioner and we get no right of appeal. To me that means that they need to be especially understanding and careful about their judgement but they will not engage in discussion. I am fed up of it.

I am grateful for the kind comments but really feel that I will step back for now. Again I want to say thanks to everyone, as I find posting helps me clarify my own thoughts as well as try to impart them for others who may ignore them or otherwise to suit themselves.

Dod,
Very sorry to see you go and hope you reconsider. Your posts first got me onto the zombie insurers for one, and your name is one I always look out for.

Thanks for this.

a) I told you how to appeal, b) that was 'engaging in discussion', we have exchanged a number of PMs Dod, it's unfair of you to suggest this is not the case, and we engage here as well.

I share similar views on the level of moderation, but respect your decision DOD. Best of luck, the place will feel a whole lot emptier without you, but I understand your position. Thanks for all your input over the years.

That's a shame Dod.

Have a flounce (nothing wrong with that - we all need one occasionally), some time off, and hopefully we'll see you back here soon. I do sympathize with your sentiments posted above.

I think the summer heat must be getting to us all ;)

Dod,

Thank you for all your posts over the years, both here and in the other place. On several occassions you have prompted me to take a look at shares that I might have otherwise overlooked, and for that I am grateful.

Dod,

Sad to hear you feel the need to take a break. I always had time for your no nonsense common sense posts.

Enjoy Your break.

Agreed but I enjoyed some of the nonsense ones as well (albeit on the less serious boards). ;)

Having time away will help, but perhaps reflect on the pine which survives your Scottish gales. It bends with the wind then bounces back.
So, maybe bending to accommodate the rules on occasions is the equivalent?
I would also agree that at times the moderation seems zealous, and restrictive, which is slightly surprising in view of the history.

I trust you will be back before long: surely, you wouldn't want to miss the chance to comment!

Sad to see one of my favourite posters wanting to leave, if you do go you will be very much missed.

I used to moderate a Facebook running group with around 10,000 members and that was a thankless task so although I do understand the level of moderation sometimes I also think it should be lessened.

There are about 5 or so people here whom I respect a great deal and Dod is one of those, the moderators should "in my opinion" be a little more flexible, although of course I understand the difficulties in moderating.

regards,
