Registered user, or Authenticated user?

Apparently I've now become an authenticated user (green), having been a registered user (blue) up till now. Just wondering what's the difference between the two? I see that you can ask to join the authenticated users group. What (if anything) is the process used to 'authenticate' a user? Does it mean the Mods have had a look and decided you are really who you say you are? Or something else?

It's more by accident at the moment. The name is misleading, it just means you have reached a post threshold. I was looking at using it as a way of enabling the privilege of posting live links.

For posting live links, could that be made a privilege granted only by request to the Mods - and removed if abused?

Sadly that's what im having trouble with. It seems to be a feature or not. No sub level control. but its only been 2 days since I installed this website, so i'm not giving up yet !

Well, that was a brief 'authentication' - the Group no longer exists! Seems I still have the 'green' name to show I was (once) a member of a defunct Group!
