But I haven't studied it - I simply vaguely recalled having seen something about signatures and spammers on the Biscuit Bar in TLF's early days, so did a quick search for it and up it popped...

It was a general consensus that signatures added nothing to the discussions and merely became a repetitive chunk of text on every post.

Also spammers were using them for URL links to dodgy sites.
