I would imagine we'll be hearing from Clariman within a couple of months, as to when the next batch of Donations would be welcome. The OP in this Topic being dated 23 September 2018.

Hi,
these are internal promotions not "adverts" coded in my me directly.
One is to highlight a part of the site with useful calculators which I hope to expand on (im working on a live FTSE price tracker you can control from your profile and other ideas)
The other is to bring give a warm thanks for those that have donated recently whilst clearing up where the donate page is.

I need to write a tool to remind folk their 12 month window has expired unless ive already done that... such a scatter brain at times.

Just for clarity, what ads are you talking about? As a donor I don't see any at all from anyone at all once I'm logged in. Or, are you referring to sticky messages about voluntary donations?

Chris

Ah I see.

Well I kinda agree that this is a pain in the backside if viewing on a small screen. I also think that they are exceptions in the sense that the donation request and the useful tools are part of the site rather than external advertisers.

I wonder whether it would be possible for the servers to serve up much smaller links to these items, i.e. ones that don't take up so much real estate, when the target device has a smaller screen size?

I suspect that if such a thing is easily implemented then it could be done. Maybe at least the people that have already donated could be prevented from seeing the request for donations part. One thing that I can say for sure is that whatever changes are desirable, if they involve masses of work then they will not be at the top of stooz's to-do list as he has enough bits and bobs that he wants to implement already.

Regards,
Chris

A timely reminder. I've just donated £20.
However, the first attempt (by credit card) said it failed and said "do it again" and the second attempt when through OK. However, I got two e-mails (same reference of 'uid_4803_blah') and different transaction reference. Credit card is showing two pending transactions for 'Paypal *lemonfool'. I don't really mind paying twice, but it would be nice to check

a) is there anywhere on TLF to see how many donations of £20 have been credited against my TLF a/c in reality (maybe it needs to take 24 hours or so to see what's really happening?)
b) is there any way to allocate the two lots of £20 over two years?

TIA

Many thanks for the donation. I had also received 2 notifications about it. If you can see 2 pending transactions then it may be a Paypal issue and they'll back one out. If they both go through, can you send Stooz and me a PM and we'll sort it out somehow.

Thanks

OK, thanks, I'll keep an eye on what my credit card does, and advise as appropriate. As you say, paypal may back it out. Sorry for the mess up and thanks for providing the great service and board :-)

Two payments now cleared onto my credit card (no longer "pending")
Will PM as requested

OK - adverts have started, so its time to pay my annual subscription, which I did yesterday. But the adverts have continued. Does the system take time to register that I have paid for no adverts?

I'd guess yes, though no doubt Clariman or stooz will be along to confirm.

Have a look towards the top of the home page, where there is a list of recent contributors. The most recent was PinkDalek, a day or two ago. No doubt your name will appear there once the donation has been processed.

Alternatively, if you can't see the 'hidden group' here memberlist.php?mode=group [Edit: not convinced I got the link right!] you are currently not recognised as a 'Sponsor'.

Edit: Corrected link https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/memberlist.php?mode=group&g=11

I paid my donation a couple of weeks ago and adverts disappeared for a bit (or at least I think they did) but they are back with a vengeance now taking up a big chunk of screen and trying to flog me something called lucklum which looks like a crap ‘leather’ case for a phone....

Dear all,

I want to make a donation but I won’t use PayPal so can I pay by a less corporate non-foreign way please.

My preference is a cheque and before anyone laughs paying by cheque and cash must be preserved (as most informed people know) in this Country because if their drip drip efforts to faze out both succeed they will eventually charge us for spending our own money.

Regards

Stan.

Not sure if it helps in your quest but you don't have to create a PayPal account as such. The payments would appear to be made via PayPal but you can Donate with a debit or credit card without setting up an account.

As for sending a cheque or even cash, you could post it to the company's Registered Office address (see the footer and use https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/search/companies).

Well in the past they did charge us for spending our own money, and that was back when cheques and cash were the only ways.

Free banking is here to stay in such a competitive marketplace I think.

I hope so but I recall a period in Germany (very early 2000s) where there were banks providing free banking that gave up and reverted to charging.. Hope it doesn't happen here! C.
