Third party links behind paywalls

Hopefully a simple question.

I recall that from time to ti e I have seen people comment that links to content that sits behind a paywall is not permitted. However, based on a quick scan of the site rules I can't find reference to this. Can a moderator please confirm the rules on this.

Many thanks.

Moderator Message:
There is no rule banning paywalled links specifically. As you probably aready know, links promoting other sites are not allowed, although links to provide the source of a (limited) quote from another site are permitted and should be provided for attribution purposes.

IMHO it is good practice to state in the post that the link is paywalled, and where possible to provide non-paywalled sources in preference.

The problem is that posting links that require a login could be seen as posting to sites to promote them. Thus saying it is behind a firewall or enter "xyz into Google will get you the same result" is ok. We do not know if the poster is deliberately promoting a site or not.

If it is mentioned that it is behind a firewall also helps other posters to decide if they want to go there. It also helps if a "small" quote is added that helps other posters.
