POLITE DISCUSSIONS Its still HERE!!

I have been making changes to the polite discussion room.
1) all posts over 12 months old are being removed.
2) it is invisble to guests
3) Its probably invisible to you;

This is quickly rectified by going to your User control panel (click your name) and manage groups - you can request to be a member of the "Discussion Group"
there is no approval or otherwise - you are just in - then you get full access to continue seeing and posting.

This is a Work In Progress so apologies if this is difficult or not working. Please post here or PM me if you have any difficulties.

This is not to discourage or otherwise but to clarify we welcome the forum and its debates but it is now a little more private and removed from Trolls and deflecting from the investment based nature of the site.
Long may the discussions continue.

Struggling to get this to work. Am I too quick off the mark?

You are very quick!
Slight error on my part - it required approval - now it is open so you can join at will..
Do let me know if it is ok? I welcome any feedback.

I think you need to tick “Discussion Group” here (and Submit):

ucp.php?i=ucp_groups&mode=membership

What's the idea behind this? Are there just too many posts for the site? Is there an archive somewhere?

Discussions are considered live and active. Any topic not visited are no longer active and relevant.

But also it is a very large forum that contributes to the site being slow. When we move server we can re instate that. This is one forum but is effecting the rest of the users here.
I appreciate this seems heavy handed but we need to take positive actions to balance the site for everyone.

I couldn't see/find the polite discussions board, and after some reflection decided that if I could, I would only get irritated by so many Brexit remainer topics and posts, so I decided I would exercise my democratic freedom whilst I still can, and leave, or should I say, "not join", (with or without a deal).

Thus I am not signing up to the PD board and will continue to use only the investment boards.

What with one thing and another (i.e. What with one person and another...) I am currently thinking: "Out of sight, out of mind."

May I offer my humble opinion please ... the action our host has taken is highly constructive. Had I been made aware of the traffic to the PD board and the negative impact it was having across the site I would have refrained from posting. And I have to add that when "we" (yes me included) get ranting on about stuff on the PD board it does get in the way of the sites focus. I quite l like the thought of coming to the site to discuss financial stuff but also other stuff too. But if the other stuff is impacting on the site to slow it down then I'm happy ... no I'm absolutely sure our host has made a good call. Once again I hasten to add.

This isn't about discussing judgement calls, especially from our host and those who support. It's not about protecting "our rights" to post. It's an opportunity to agree that we all get something ... and for the most we get it for nothing.

We're all in the TLF life raft together. If we don't work together we're going to stay adrift in the middle of the largest ocean in the world. The "Me Ocean".

I'd like to thank Stooz and all those in support for hosting and running the site.

Great job. Only one thing left to say ... thank you

AiY

Unaccountably my post congratulating this decision has disappeared.

This is very good news. The entrance to that particular hornets nest has been stopped up, and the hive hidden from public view. I have long thought that polite discussions were a problem for the sites moderators.

Thank you for all the good work here moderators.

More proliferation of subjects of the kind that generate more heat than light on many of the other boards here?

I'll get me coat. Or, on second thoughts, it's too warm for that.

Hear hear, far too many impolite discussions for me.
