Bitcoin and crypto-currency thread

#385972

Postby TheMotorcycleBoy » February 12th, 2021, 11:32 am

Hi folks,

Is there a Bitcoin etc. thread anyway on TLF? I'm not talking about a "how to invest in BTC" thread as such, but merely one which attempts to pull in people's thoughts and analysis.

I've been attempting, half heartedly, to do my own research as why many, even Fund Managers, Elon Musk etc. are so in awe, and I was curious as to whether some of TLFs thinkers had any interesting views on:

1. Why people have forced up BTCs price of late
2. Whether crypto in general can ever replace regular currency
3. Where does the perceived value emanate? I've heard that that's due the supply being hardcoded at 21Million, but I've heard others state that the protocol could be changed to increase this, furthermore how some people could arguably favour currencies which are not CB controlled.

Just wondered if such a theory thread existed anywhere here. If not might be interesting to pool thoughts and musings somewhere.

thanks Matt

dealtn's link points to the right board, but I'm not aware of such a thread. Possibly you could start one.

Both the Shares mag and Investors chronicle have dealt with answers to your questions recently. They have also talked extensively about it on their podcasts, which I heartily recommend. Most recently an interview with Vilhelm German, Chief Technology Officer at Swiss crypto exchange Bitnuk.com.

Oh if you do listen he often talk's about halving. Here is a link about that.

FWIW, I'm just an interested observer and have never bought any crypto-currency.

Thanks people.

I'll try and get a thread started in "Other investing" sometime this weekend if I get the time.

The bitcoin discussion has moved here

This NOT the board for discussion of crypto currency, NOR its energy impact.
All comments on these issues have been removed from here.
I will lock the thread now as the original question has been answered
