Proper Question!

Is the deletion of posts by TLF Moderators partially automated or strictly manual?

That is, if a post is deleted by a Moderator are all 'linked' posts (i.e. posts quoting the deleted post) automatically deleted as well? Or do any such posts related to a deleted post have to be deleted by hand?

TIA

Footnote to Redsturgeon's reply ...

As you can probably deduce from his reply, when a thread/topic has run on and is beginning to get out of hand it is time-consuming to go through it and delete the 'offending' posts while leaving positive contributions in place. It is easier and far quicker to delete a whole topic or to just lock it, which is why Mods and Admins will sometimes take that approach.

On another forum I frequent, Team Mod tends to "hide" a contentious thread attracting lots of reports for a week or two while they find some personal time to prune it. Then they 'un-hide' it, by which time a lot of the heat tends to have cooled.

Works quite well actually. Supplementary threads asking where the thread has gone also get this explanation, that the thread has been hidden pending pruning and un-hiding, which seems to half-satisfy most complainers.

We do that too sometimes. We move them to somewhere not available to users then bung them back again afterwards. C.

"hiding and pruning". Um... I wonder if one day it might even be possible to do something similar with moderators? ;)

Very funny :) Also off-topic for this board :)

Seriously though:
