Not suitable for people who are allergic to lupins...
I may give them a go, although some vege meat substitutes give me cramps. Must be the bean content...

Just bought some - will try them when I don't have any immediate travel plans, just in case...
Also a handy way to find out if I have a lupin allergy

Finally had these last night, as a 'beer mop'
Not bad at all -best vege burgers I've had for a while, although when I've had a few beers pretty much anything tastes good :-)

I just fried one with a little oil and butter, small amount of salt and pepper on both sides. It tasted good, savoury but not like a burger. But what's the point if one likes meat and is not a vegetarian?

Speaking as someone who hasn't eaten meat for the last 25 years or so ...

I avoid veggieburgers, just as I avoided burgers before giving up. Indeed, I find more generally those veggie foods that pretend to be meat tend to be worth avoiding. And that includes meat-substitutes like nut roast, as well as more direct imitations. They seem to me a fine way to convince meat-eaters that veggies subsist on a tasteless, joyless diet. There are a few honourable exceptions, but as a rule if you want decent veggie food, avoid anything that could be described as meat-substitute. And avoid places whose 'token' veggie dish falls into that category.

Haven't seen this particular brand anywhere I shop. Maybe it's one of those honourable exceptions.

Just drink water...

Same with smoking - Woodbines or nothing, no middle-ground.

Non-alcoholic beer? Veggie burgers? Who are you and what have you done with the real Snorvey?

Perhaps that was it. A healthy young man's life on the high seas: a tanned face, lean body, broad smile, comradeship, bravery, and a real (cough, splutter, spit) cigarette. No dish-water-weak 'veggie' substitutes.

To the advertising agency, all sailors were fit youthful smokers (in addition to their living off rum, b*m and - according to Churchill - the lash)

When I were a lad it were B&H (gold pack) - or, oddly , Embassy Regal if you were from the north of England (no idea why the geographical split)

Or is it?

I think there's a certain trigger point when you switch from looking at how many years you have lived to how many you might have left.

If I do really on have 20 years left (3 score and ten and all that) then I don't want to end up like a lot of people I know/have known (gulp!) who have daily pill boxes where the variety of drugs for the week ahead are neatly arranged in advance.

No thanks.

It isn't sad and I think you are to be congratulated for taking control of your own health. I was 60 years old yesterday and at the same age my father was about to have a series of strokes...

I am perhaps fortunate that I don't really care much about food at all. It is just fuel for the body like air and water. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy eating food, I do. I lived in a part of Africa for 2 years in a place where the diet was very limited and you certainly wouldn't have wanted to eat whatever meat was available. It taught me the difference between 'eating to live' and 'living to eat'.

Most of my family, especially my in-laws, find my eating habits very eccentric but they seem to have a constant struggle with their weight, suffer from the ill effects of eating too much and undergo some sort of internal conflict when presented with a tempting dessert which they find difficult to resist.

I suspect that most humans, with the exception of the young, the unwell and those pregnant really don't need to eat 3 times (or more) each day. Athletes or those expending a lot of physical energy each day excepted. I also suspect that a period of fasting is beneficial for health and well-being.

I eat only once a day and have a mainly vegetarian diet. I fast regularly for 48 hours and feel good as a result, it doesn't usually result in hunger pangs. Consequently, I am not overweight and my blood pressure is good for my age. Obviously what suits me wouldn't suit everyone but I'd rather live the way I do and reduce the likelihood that I will end up like my father...

Number 6 for me. When I couldn't afford those it was Number 10 from which the end used to fall just when you went for the last couple of drags.

Bumsucking was a schooldays term that we used when the fag was passed around and some git left a huge amount of slobber dripping from the end.

Etonians might notice a double entendre...
