Ostrich
Ahh, that takes me back.
The 80s... City of London.. expense account lunches that went on for hours... alligator, shark, ostrich and doubtless other exotics marinaded in an alcoholic haze of forgetfulness.
But now we have ostrich steak in Aldi.
Quarter pounder for £2.50.
Pre-grilled, needed just 2-3 minutes per side in a pan fry.
Looks like steak.
Very tender.
Tastes like... nothing else.
Not freezable, so can't stock up, but if it's in your local branch hold your nose and ignore the South African food miles, and give it a try.
A champagne treat at a lemonade price.

Re: Ostrich
I found ostrich quite tasty and if I were passing might give it a go. Pity it can be frozen, I wonder why. It might not be as nice anyway.
You buying more?

Swan?
I quite like ostrich in a curry - it was one of my go to meats at the Mongolian place in Glasgow that made you choose your ingredients before cooking it in a shield.
I met one on the road driving to a party in Arbroath once; it had jumped its fence and was running north along the side of the road... keeping up with my mate's Grenada (which when I think about it probably wasn't that impressive a feet)
Certainly was a double take moment

Have you tried slow cooking it by burying it in hot sand?

One reason for saying you can't freeze something is that it already has been frozen and defrosted.

What about Reindeer meat...I think that you can freeze that, defrost, chop off a bit of Bambi and then refreeze?

I believe that works with mammoth.
Dunno why it can't be frozen, OH interpreted the runes on the pack and pronounced it so.
Yes, we'll certainly be buying more if it's still there... thing is with Aldi, odd items like this come and go never to be seen again.
Btw, although it's a bird, it's a red wine jobbie, for us at least.

Ostrich steak or ostrich burger?

Indeed, and my nearest Aldi had ostrich burgers a year or so back, just for a short period. TBH, having had ostrich steak some decades ago, while nice I wasn't particularly impressed with the Aldi ostrich burgers, but I will give them another go if they have them again.

I have seen ostrich burgers in Aldi but I don't think steaks, the steaks can occasionally be found in my local Morrisons. They are not quite real steaks, the Morrisons offer is sous vide pre-cooked steak with some seasoning just a few minutes in the griddle. SO likes them so we've had them a few times when the orange sticker fairy has been about, they list about a fiver for 2 steaks, which works out over £20 per kg, same price as a nice(er) rib eye.

Actually I don't got to Aldi, my local is Lidl, that'll be where I scored ostrich burgers. Might make a journey to Aldi if they're cheap.

Re: Ostrich
Now we've tried the burgers.
Two for £2.50 so half the price of the steaks.
They're OK.
Hard to determine what they taste of.
They're just burgers.
If one wants the ostrich experience, they ain't it.
Stick to the steaks.

Re: Ostrich
It's probably been ten years since we tried ostrich steaks. In supermarket packaging (I can't remember which one), and they tasted all right, in an average sort of way, but they were pretty tough.
Apparently that's to do with the low fat content. With 20/20 hindsight, I should have given them less than two minutes a side on the grill. I doubt I'll try it again, though.

I would say on a par with rib eye.
Perhaps our particular ostrich was largely sedentary.
