Re: Favourite Beer Snacks
Maybe because tinned sprats are far harder to get hold of in this country than anchovies.
(A quick search shows Tesco has 4 types of anchovies in oil, but the only sprats they have are in tomato sauce.)
Scott.

Not cheap, or easily available

These ‘Ansjovis’ may sound like they are anchovies, but no. They are small sprats, and much much milder in taste than anchovies. The most common use is in ‘Jansson’s Temptaion’ ... Please don’t make it with regular anchovies though, the flavour will be overpowering. Swedish confusion-power at its finest ...
This is a chilled item.
(Why chill canned fish ?!)

Re: Favourite Beer Snacks
As I've said, anchovies in olive oil and Watson's anchovy sauce combo is a good substitute, obviously no-one is so stupid to substitute 1 for 1. But I like it salty anyway. In Finnish language the proper product (sprat in a spiced liquid, the liquid which is supposed to be used in the dish by the way) is called "anchovy fillet" or "Jansson's fillet". They're all pretty much the same fish family herring for all practical purposes, just the spiced liquid differs.

Re: Favourite Beer Snacks
Hey it's Friday and I can eat something and drink a few beers! Chili con carne with some extra fluffy rice & French bean mix. I am counting minutes when I can start cooking, I am eating so little during the week I haven't been on the toilet since Monday morning - hopefully beer and chili hit will kick-start the system!
No, haven't had any beers yet, going for a run first.
