Does paying by Paypal linked to a credit card give the same protection on a purchase as paying directly with the credit card?

As they say, "it depends".

MSE's article is pretty useful: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credi ... Section75/

Excellent, many thanks.
Whenever I use Paypal, it's always from a link on the supplier's web page, so it looks like I'm protected.

On a real example we experienced with an Airbnb booking - no we did not get the same protection, or at the very least it would have been a lot more difficult to get the protection. After that we vowed to not to use Paypal over £100, especially or anything other buying goods (where the issue is typically more clear cut).
