This set of 4 blogs is a useful read too:

I was reading the blog referred to by UKFIRE. One item stood out in the second article where it stated the minimum holding period for retaining VCT tax relief was only 3 years for reinvested dividends. Has anyone else come across this? On its own the DRIS may be small but if you are already planning to sell a 5 year old holding it would be worth combining the sale with DRIS derived shares.

Thanks for the link, have a red :)

I saw that and I asked Wealthclub and they said it's 5 years for DRIS. So I'd ignore that. No mention in HMRC guidance either.

This illustrates the dangers of relying on information posted on blogs, however well meaning. I also noticed the comment that VCTs and EIS are broadly similar. I have a very different view. I do agree that Wealth Club provide an excellent service - and lots of free information for those looking to invest. Ditto the AIC website.

Very true James. I do think it's a good set of blogs overall though (as part of wider research).

Yes EIS very different from VCTs. One important one being you can exit a VCT after 5 years, whereas EIS not so easy after 3 or 5.

Is there anything missing from those blogs? It seems like it's pretty comprehensive but there's always the chance that something has been left out.
