Here are some interesting statistics.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... T__8_9.pdf

On p6 it shows that there were only 13k investors claiming tax relief in 2016 and that over half the money (£222m) was raised from just 1.6k investors in the range £75k to £200k. The median size of investment was in the range £10k to £15k.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... y_2017.pdf

On p3 it shows that there are 364k taxpayers paying the 45% tax rate and 4200k taxpayers paying the 40% rate.

It looks like a long way to go before VCTs are considered to be mainstream rather than niche.

Thanks for the links to the statistics. I'm not surprised at the niche position of VCTs. A number of my acquaintances in professional positions are still wary about equity investments in mainstream products. When they see the "sophisticated investor" warnings around VCTs, they have no intention of proceeding with such investments.
