HYPTUSS Data

#217242

Postby monabri » April 25th, 2019, 1:46 pm

I noticed a problem with HYPTUSS today. Certain prices appear to being scraped incorrectly.

These are the ones I noticed - they were so far out of align.

I tried to scrape prices using HYPTUSS v52 (old) and a more recent version 65 - both in Excel, Windows 10.

I downloaded v11.68 for Excel but the result was the same.

(I would post a picture but (for some reason) I'm being told I cannot use certain BBCcodes:[img] - I normally post an image (jpg) without a problem but linking seems to work)

I looked back at a backup file from 23/04/19 and the prices look ok.

It seems to have corrected itself. I had JETI at 174 about 10 minutes ago, sharecast showed 148.56, I checked my portfolio on Yahoo and it was correct. Then re-run HYPTUSS and it now shows 147.45, which seems to match. MRCH also now shows 492.50.

Merchants at 513p (491p on LSE) ?

Were they by any chance picking up the capital net asset value per ordinary share?

The Merchants Trust PLC announces that at close of business 24 April 2019:

1) based on the par value of the company's long term debt and preference shares, the capital net asset value per ordinary share was 513.10p.
2) based on the market value of the company's long term debt and preference shares, the capital net asset value per ordinary share was 491.10p

https://www.londonstockexchange.com/exc ... 52152.html

I haven't checked any others.

Edit: Seems to be confirmed by this one https://www.londonstockexchange.com/exc ... 52026.html THE NET ASSET VALUE PER SHARE IN PENCE, INCLUDING INCOME WITH DEBT AT FAIR VALUE: 340.5

monarbi,

The source info looks good, have you tried to highlight the ticker of the specific share and click the open DL button. HYPTUSS gets its numbers from webfg (DL) and I have checked a couple of yours and they look good JETI at 147.45. BRCI at 76.8. MRCH at 490 however I do not have TUSS with me to confirm my version but perhaps the bit TUSS points to on the webfg page has changed.

No, that's not correct.
Prices are from Yahoo, which does seem to have a problem.
JETI, for example https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/JETI.L? ... c=fin-srch is currently showing a price of 174, even though the day's range on Yahoo shows 147.25 - 148.90

No doubt Yahoo will sort itself out

Seems like they do have some data issues. I saw the 174 in my portfolio and 10 minutes later it was correct and now it is back to 174. It shows

174.00+1.00 (+0.58%)
when it opened at 148.90.

Mind you I think that the 52 week range of
1.41 - 148.90
seems "iffy".

It looks like it has indeed.

I only spotted the issue because I've modded HYPTUSS to calculate the change in values from previous results as a percentage.

I've noticed issues with the prices on Yahoo Finance since Tuesday including PHP (Primary Health Properties), STS (Securities Trust of Scotland) and SDV (Chelverton Small Companies). Prices seems to be correct when the market is closed, but during trading hours the prices are sometimes wrong.

Prices are still playing up. I noticed on my HYPTUSS for ITs only because the calculated total price per unit had jumped upwards. A couple of wrong-uns I noted are IVI, CYN and JETI - but I expect there are several others.

If it were critical, I'd have to check each one, which is a bit of a blow.

That's an interesting observation - I will recheck tonight and see if things normalise.

That's the conclusion I'm coming to. I note that several of my IT holdings are showing large positive increases on yesterday (JRS +17%, JETI +16%, JMC +12%, JPS +13%).

It does seem to have affected my ITs rather than single companies - with the reult that my IT basket has taken a big (but false) leap today wrt my HYP :(

I'm not sure that's true. Here's the Yahoo history for JETI.L, where you would expect the closing price to be correct (around 150p), but most of the closing prices are incorrect (around 170p)

What I observed was large discrepancies during trading hours but it righted itself by close.

I've looked at Primary Health Properties (PHP), which lists an incorrect closing price of 1.06 for several weeks apart from yesterday:

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/quote/PHP.L/history?p=PHP.L

However, my HYPTUSS FTSE-HYP tracking page (always taken after closing hours) is consistently showing the correct price of around 130p

So I'm not sure what is going on, but it does seem to me to be an issue with prices during trading hours only.

I concur that there have been/are some anomalies in share prices quoted on Yahoo. I have noticed several recently, including for example, currently JAI, which is trading around 380p (379p - 373p) and yet is shown on Yahoo at 411p.

Hi there,

We've had similar issues with Yahoo prices in the past, and they seem to clear themselves up in a short space of time normally.

Hopefully that will be the case with the pricing anomalies being experienced at the moment, but thanks for raising this issue as at least people are now aware of it this time around.

Cheers,

Itsallaguess
