It's just gorse, which I lucky don't encounter very often.

It's all to do with holidays in Suffolk as a child and my parents leaving us in gorse surrounded clearings while they went off to have sex somewhere else (presumably less spikey....).

Abandoned in the gorse - I can see that might cause unwelcome associations
(I keep meaning to do the Suffolk coast -looks lovely. Dunwich, Southwold, Orford Ness...)

Yes but the Brimstone is cunningly camouflaged, albeit slightly off colour.

You spotted it...33rd row in 17th buttercup from the left! ;)

The detectives among you may spot the (ahem, deliberate) mistake in the description though...

Well, I can't see your stealth dog.
Is that a dog shadow bottom of pic, or your head?

Ha ha that is my head...I was thinking of cropping out the shadow but I thought it best to leave the whole picture as is, unedited straight from my phone.

Tick, tock but anyway, I can find your amended original, marking the whereabouts of your hound, but where's the one where you first posted it?

Scrap that, both versions (okay there's only one in reality) would now have the felt tip:

Hmmm it seems that the original now has been blown up with the marker...strange. I'll see if I can fix that.

Don't mention the gorse....'Furze' is an acceptable euphemism. It's also a funnier word.

(Good to see Scotland is keeping up its contribution to global warming)

Well, apparently:
"Gorse may grow as a fire-climax plant, well adapted to encourage and withstand fires, being highly flammable,[8] and having seed pods that are to a large extent opened by fire, thus allowing rapid regeneration after fire. The burnt stumps also readily sprout new growth from the roots. Where fire is excluded, gorse soon tends to be shaded out by taller-growing trees, unless other factors like exposure also apply. Typical fire recurrence periods in gorse stands are 5–20 years."

I see your gorse-fire photograph, and raise you a rock-fire photo -

I assume he was working with a relatively fast-shutter speed at this point....

The view from the top of Conic Hill at Loch Lomond today. The chain of islands follow the Highland Boundary Fault.

Yesterday looking at the beach below Lighthouse Hill , Portreath ,Cornwall . Just round the headland and to the north of Portreath main beach (which was absolutely packed ) . This beach only really accessible by kayak etc .
The road to Lighthouse Hill is a no through road as it leads to the secretive air base at Nancekuke.

At one stage (post WW2) Nancekuke was part of CDE Porton, used for manufacturing nerve agents such as Sarin.
I think it's now a radar station/RRH

A couple of interesting videos of the "secret" Nancekuke. Locally there are all sorts of tales of what got dumped down adjacent mineshafts !
