..oh are they still doing Schenkerian analysis there? ;)

Yes, but not in any great depth. They usually cover it during recorder classes for the eight-year olds, somewhere between Sur le Pont d'Avignon and Greensleeves. ;)

A long time ago now, but I think that the discussion was about the inflexibility of adult music lessons compared to how it works in the UK.

Talking of music, not many people know that Chopin used to like composing and playing his piano at the top of mineshafts. Apparently, the wooden platform and beams amplified the sound. One day, the beams gave way and his enormous grand piano fell to the bottom of the mineshaft.

It's from there that he got the inspiration for his famous Study in A Flat Minor. 8-)

Ah that's not a bad place for it; that's where stuff like figured bass makes sense
- it's really a bit outdated though, almost as much as his ideas about eugenics etc

That Schenkerian stuff sounds kind of kinky. You obviously took the theory a lot further than me. I still remember a bit about figured bass, but never really understood why it was important. Actually, one of my projects on the list for when I retire is to go back to my music..... and finally play something with more than three sharps or flats in it! :P

They've said that they have studied the latest COVID19 rules and as far as they're concerned, they can carry on serving food and customers can carry on drinking their own alcohol at the table.

I'm all for that, but are they pushing their luck?

No they're not pushing their luck - they're breaking the rules.

Q. Is Bring Your Own Bottle (BYOB) permitted?

A. No, it is not possible to consume alcohol in either licensed premises or unlicensed premises in cafes, bars, or restaurants during the temporary period of restrictions.

Is there anything in the sale of goods act that allows them to claim their money back if the result is not to their liking? ;)

A reasonable question but better still if you'd mentioned the Consumer Rights Act 2015. :)

That's a bit harsh!

You do know that we owe the invention of the toothbrush to an Old Firm fan? That's why it's not called a teethbrush.

Every so often when I was a wean we'd find one peeping through our keyhole looking to see if it was empty for burgling; you could tell they were one as you could see both their eyes.

Depressing.

But it'll be lighter in the mornings, so you can leap out of bed and go to work with a spring in your step

I'm a through and through supporter of capitalism and free markets, and naturally no fan of Frankie Boyle, but that last statement is dangerously powerful in the present climate. Given the imbalances and pervasive sense of self-entitlement and self-virtuousness (aided by vacuous social media) we sadly seem destined to have yet another failed experiment in socialism.

There might also be those who suspect the story of being spun, very likely by omitting the value of state redistributive actions. It may not be on the scale of Europe, but even the US has some very substantial benefits, both universal and means-tested.

The leash duly arrived, but I'm still waiting for the retractable dog. Do you think it's still OK, or do I need to inform the RSPCA?

Reminds me of the time I bought a 'hand shredder' . . .

No, I wasn't wishing to inflict harm upon myself, the product could have better been described as a 'hand operated paper shredder'.
