Food fetishism, the media driven national obsession for yet another piquant and fashionable dish from Morocco, Greece, Turkey etc. without which a full life cannot be experienced. Celebrity chefs deserve the custard pie treatment - with an al dente meringue topping and mascarpone filling. Perhaps I could include 'eating out' but that probably deserves another Unpopular Opinion.

Why is it so difficult to keep drugs out of prisons?

The primary function of skools is to provide a state funded child minding service so parents can go out to work, earn money and pay swingeing taxes.

Edumacation is a by product of the need to keep the brats occupied.

We're insane to be even thinking of calling July 4th "Independence Day". It marks the date we lost the USA, and now it'll mark the day when the pubs were packed and coronavirus got a big helping hand. If we're going to call 4th July anything, "Losing Day" would be more appropriate.

Especially given it coincides with the emergence of the far more virulent SARS-CoV-2 "D614" mutation, discussed by Dr Chris Martenson in his video here:

Edit to add, starts at 16 mins into the video.

But on the other side of the coin, we also lost Donald Trump. Pity about Boris - we should have insisted he remained a US citizen. :)

Once retirement age is reached elective surgery by the NHS should not be free, it should be means-tested. The primary purpose of the welfare state is to keep the national workforce fit for duty, not to artificially prolong the life of those that arguably are better off dead.

Doctors, particularly General Practitioners, and nurses are hugely overpaid.

Cambridge had a degree called "Land Economy" that was the butt of jokes: a qualification for Wodehousian sons of the old elite to manage the ancestral estates[1]. Yours'll be a plebs answer to that ...

(a) Why limit it to Inheritance tax?
(b) Why "and NI"? You're turning a blind eye to the over-complex idiocy that runs multiple parallel tax systems.
(c) Why am I arguing this here? It's OT. Shut up, me.

Um, are you saying there's some surgery that you have to pay for while of working age, but becomes free once you hit 68 or whatever it is?

[1] Erm, or so I'm led to suppose. The kind of people who might have taken a contrary view never crossed my path.

The NHS has too many obese staff. Many of whom hang around Ward reception desks most of their shift, while claiming that they are overworked.

Council leader Vikki Slade said they were "absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches".

"The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe. We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response," she added
.

and yet:

we will continue to trust in the common sense and the community spirit of the British people guidance

Oh Vikki - yee of little faith

After the uncertainty of the bug itself, we emerged from quarantine into the almost comical uncertainty of London lockdown.

The toilets were open according to a council person on Radio 4 earlier. Though people who couldn't (be bothered to) wait in the queue just soiled anywhere they deemed appropriate.

You can't police a population into respectful behaviour, it has to be instilled through education.

They get 4 tides a day in Bournemouth and the effect of a large ship going between there and the Isle of Wight often had a bigger effect than the tide. I expect it was all the bodies in the water.
