Ah, but how do you know which is which?
Quite simple.... in winter the rain is horizontal, and in summer it's vertical

That, and i can imagine that you can buy a croft with central heating (i.e. a fireplace to burn peat) for about three quid.

Then again, you have to deal with the appalling Nicola and her dreary interventionism. Oops, wrong board, sorry.

So it looks like the last of the snow here will melt tomorrow.

Oh well, only 3 months till the days start to get shorter again.

Scott.

This cold weather is making me miserable and drained of energy (even with my Vitamin D tablets..)
I long for summer days...

I visited the Isle of Skye a few years ago, to do some diving on the local wrecks. Whilst setting up our kit, the local midges came out for "a full English breakfast" and within a minute or so there was a swarm of the little blighters blocking the sun. I broke all personal (and some world) records to get my drysuit on and zipped up, kit on and into the water: I can confirm that no midges survived an hour under the water, inside or outside of my drysuit.

Upon returning to land, the strategy to avoid the midges was to not stay still: watching us get dekitted and changed probably looked like a mad hatter's tea party with everybody changing location every 30 seconds or so.

A Scottish friend recommended Avon "Skin so soft" as it seems to work better than Deet. He was right! The fact that he shared this with an Englishman only proves that Scots love us really :)

The Beast is back - or at least son of the Beast is back. A fall of Snow in Grantown on Spey this morning. Should be good for the Scottish Ski season. Every cloud has a silver (or snowy) lining.

Is that Speyside export-grade bogwater country? How does it affect your country's signature export?

Though on the other hand, I thought spring snow was usual in the highlands. I've encountered a fair bit of it in much-later-spring.

I'd better not dispel the myths that surround the famed water
And I'll also confess that I'm not a whisky expert. My one and only contact occurred when, as a teenager, I fell ill when visiting a grandparent. I was given a hot toddy, but unsurprisingly it failed to cure the appendicitis.
And if I'm allowed a bit of heresy, I quite enjoy a glass of Cider, brewed in Scotland.
As to the current snow - I have managed an outing with the dog without getting too wet and cold, but he is hopefully looking out the window again.

Switched off CH on Sunday, I just caved in and pressed the 1hr boost button. +9 inside, hail earlier today, now raining ice water. I am a softie.

Bu99er that!

If it gets down to 19C, in living room, our heating goes on.

I see no reason to suffer when we have the technology not to.
