The going is going to be heavy - Stratford some 30 miles away called off their meeting this am with waterlogging. Cheltenham does dry well - but of course needs the rain to stop.

Heavy going usually leads to some major upsets.

As a starter for the wiser heads - try Cogry in the Ultima tomorrow (2.50). Normally I would have thought that 3m1f would be on the sort side for this thorough stayer but with heavy going I can see this Scottish GN 2nd striding up the hill to reward 25/1 ew backers. With Bargery fresh from his Imperial win on Saturday and an invaluable 3lb off in this going - this looks a value bet.

Well I live in Cheltenham and it has been raining fairly steadily all day, forecast says it will carry on until midnight.

Despite all the upside to having the racecourse here, Gold Cup week can be a real PITA if you happen to live here. I have to get my little grandson across town to his nursery just down the road from the racecourse at 12.30 tomorrow, that's going to be fun.

Think your tip for Cogry is an excellent one particularly at those odds. Think I will be able to watch it so looking forward to seeing a few races. If I was betting would definately go each way on your pick if at over 20/1 but backing Gold Present to win, for fun...weight could get him though.

Same reasoning makes me go for Wicklow Brave in the Champion Hurdle and La Bague au Roi in the Mares - obviously both ew.

Good job I'm only watching..saved a few bob. Great to view though. Seeing Lizzie Kelley win was great....think she was in shock.

Despite my misgivings, it was not too bad, 20 minutes instead of the usual 10. That included having to pull over while a brand new Range Rover with about 6 police motorcycles escorting passed, Princess Anne or some other minor royal I guess. Hard to begrudge their little bit of pleasure, they work so hard for us

After yesterday maybe should keep a low profile. Anyway hope springs eternal and my three for today are:

So T7..not a good few days and haven't heard a pip from beerpig, so he might be drowning his sorrows also...so to add some spice to the affairs....and considering I have totally lost touch with horses, form, jockeys, weight, etc, etc...

Used to love my racing.......yonks ago, I nearly got expelled at the age of 16 for running a book at Kings School Ely and was caught by the assistant headmaster coming out of the bookies(he made out he was never in there, but he bloody well was)..those were the days when Headmaster gave 6 of the best, but had learned by then when to put a flannel inside my pants to reduce the impact and on this occasion wasn't asked to remove it. Can you imagine this happening today!

Anyway, the days of Sea Pigeon, Pendil, Desert Orchid, Bregawn, Rummy, Lester Piggot(for the flat) was my era and used to spend hours with all the papers, form books, studying previous form, pedigree, etc, etc and scream at the TV. When I had a winner at 25-1 was absolutely besides myself and it wasn't so much the money, more the excitement in seeing the form being played out. If I ever had a fiver or a tenner on(in those days quite a lot for me) and my horse won, it was just magic and I had quite a few. I will never forget watching and following Hallo Dandy over a period of 2 years and in 84 he won the Grand National. Can't remember the odds but do remember picking up over a grand and celebrating for over a week..........and only perhaps 10 years ago found out that he had been neglected, and found undernourished in a field somewhere but was rescued and lived till 33 years of age...........

Now, don't know any of the form or the horses but still love watching.................rambling on , so until the off..

Unbowed but somewhat poorer - Thursday are grandchild day - feeding ducks, what's that etc - so the OH would not approve of even a peek at the RP form today - so to much relief no tips today apart from agreeing that Un de Sceaux looks very good - not a revelation.

Be warned I will have another go on Friday and may even mention a nag for next Monday in which I own the slower leg - well handicapped but so slow.

ps I could bore for England with racing anecdotes and the proper days of smoke filled bookies, being banned for winning too much and nowhere to put all the stinking notes, meeting Arkle in recuperation, my failed attempts to be a racing photographer against the likes of Gerry Granham, the all night poker sessions at Cheltenham against very drunk Irishmen etc - maybe another day?
