Within the first 30 seconds of this show, we have Mick Hucknall saying, 'All I remember about 1986 is that everything around us seemed to be fake plastic pop'.
Yep. We can't include Simply Red in that, can we Mick? They were a very serious political band, Simply Red, weren't they Mick?

Really enjoyed that and experienced a few Proustian moments while watching it.
Even better...I discover a whole series of them covering 1979 to at least 1986.

Re: Top of the Pops: 1986
I have managed to see Simply Red live three times, always by accident. Mick Hucknell looks like a parody of himself these days. (mind you, have you *seen* Steve Wright recently??)
Anyway, I couldn't see James mentioned, in case anyone wants to check it out, their new album comes out tomorrow and has had incredibly positive reviews and tghe EP and singles, plus all the live versions I have heard so far, have been great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Living-Extraor ... mes+living
When is Simply Red's new album?
