Re: A handy guide!
It predated "Yes, Minister" by a couple of decades, Mel.
I see that the acceptable use of b******s is autocorrected here, hence the Turnip. I would have thought that to be offensive to football managers. Brian Clough, was it?

Of course. I'm afraid I'm a rugby person. Didn't Taylor work with Clough at one stage?

Be careful. Urban Dictionary is a superb resource (?), but it did introduce me to the meaning of the world's most disgusting word.
6 letters. Starts with 'F
Farage? Distasteful perhaps, but not that bad surely?

I find 8⁄₃πr³ will bypass the censors.

I am surprised that Trump - meaning to flatulently emit noxious effluvia in a largely unpremeditated and uncontrolled way to the great offence of many - is not included.

Re: A handy guide!
Thank you for the link to. The words will make a useful addition to my collection.
I rarely if ever use most of the words.
Henceforth, instead of 'bloody' I shall say 'by our lady'.
I used to refer to my dog as a bitch, particularly when talking about her in a public place. I shall ask my vet friend to suggest a more suitable word to describe a dog's gender to the over-sensitive. The same goes for 'cock' and 'cow' which my farming friends are sure to have fun with.
Richard is just going to have to get used to being called by his proper name.

Re: A handy guide!
I forwarded on the link to my colleague who is verbally extremely offensive and he was most upset that some of his favourite words weren't included.
I've suggested he contact Ofcom and complain that the list isn't long enough with some suggestions of his own to include in their next updated edition.
Cheers, OLTB.

I don't think so as I've known it all of my life, starting in the North East and then the East Midlands.
Though pump was more common in the North East.

Re: A handy guide!
My experience of working in the US - particularly in the east in New Jersey - was that f**k is thought far less objectionable than bl**dy.
And I would hope that if a US version of the guide is produced, my definition of Trump is added...

Listening to Frankie Boyle's Prometheus Vol. 03 recently and he said that in Glasgow, f**king was just a warning that a verb was on it's way.

Re: A handy guide!
In the long summer 6th Form vac I once worked as a dogsbody helping with the installation of a telephone exchange.
The men who did the wiring - a tedious never-ending job connecting wires to terminals with a wrapping gun - had a wonderful command of degenerate English, and I well remember one phrase in particular: ITV was split into I T f**king V
