You awful people, leave the spiders alone. They're cute and eat flies. I'd never kill one.

I actually feel guilty when I remove a web.

I don't need them to eat flies (aka: wrap them up and leave their dried out carcasses lying around) - I have a fly deterrent so there are no flies, which really means there should be no spiders. So, if they just agree to abide by those rules - they are safe.

And, no, cute they are not.

Nice thought, , and I do the same. But an indoor spider would probably last a few hours outside before he got eaten. Lost and all alone, out in the cold and the wind, and probably the wrong sort altogether for outdoor survival. Never mind, it's the thought that counts.

I'm not scared of spiders but not particularly fond of them either.
My bugbear though, is the thought of getting into bed at night and there's one already under the covers.
Or, the little one I saw on the bedroom ceiling earlier, waits until the light is out and I'm asleep, then silently lowers itself down onto me and crawls inside my ear. :o

I once found a scorpion-type thing in the bed in a hotel in Texas. It scurried away but I don't know where. Not a good night's sleep!

I worked in rural East Africa for a couple of years, quite a long way (in travelling time) from the nearest medical facilities. I used to sleep under a mosquito net with a stool beside my bed. Sometimes I remembered to place my torch on the stool in case I needed to get up in the dark. Sometimes I forgot.

One night I felt hungry and decided to get up and eat something. Fortunately I had my torch handy and turned it on because I then saw a Black Mamba slowly making it's way from under my bed and exactly where I would have placed my feet whilst getting up. I watched it slowly slither out of my room and decided that the world could probably manage quite well (and I would sleep more soundly) with one less snake so I despatched it with a nearby grass slasher. Spiders don't bother me much, usually.

A scorpion on the wall above my bed was one of my first wildlife encounters on moving to Italy. Fascinating posture, bent back on itself in a circular (ring) shape!

I thought that the reason polar bears did not eat penguins was because they couldn't get the wrappers off.

No, but they don't work for spiders either :)

Or at least there's no proof they do -

I do love the seasons.

I remember my mate moved to San Jose and said it only rained 9 days a year. I don't think I could live in San Jose.

Pfft, it only rains twice a year in Wales.

Once from January to June, and second from July to December.

I would have though the stench from the stool would have done it...

On the subject of stools... My toilet was a longdrop, a hole in a concrete slab with a pit underneath. The whole enclosed with wooden walls and a corrugated sheet as a roof, about the size of a phone box. I've no idea how deep the pit was but it had its own colony of bats living in it. They seemed to have some sort of diurnal rhythm because the flapping of their wings was much more obvious later in the day.

Anyway, I was squatting there one morning trying to ignore the bats when I heard a rustling and looked up at the ceiling. A green snake was making its way through the gap between the top of the walls and the corrugated sheet. I didn't hang about.
