I was rather hoping that it would end in a massive and fatal crash, except some poor bastard would have to scrape the dickhead off the road.

Blue flashing lights in the RH mirror at 1.21; that's why he was in a hurry. . . . .

This video reminds me of the seat-of-pants motorways there, you have to drive defensively at all times to try and insulate yourself against people like this. It's difficult when there are so few police (scores of thousands were jailed after the coup). The last time I drove down such a road was 2 months ago, to the airport upon leaving after three years; I never wish to return.

I never realised Turkey had any roads without huge potholes.
When I worked there in the late 1970s I acquired a driver* in case the Polis stopped me for any offence - real or imaginary.
It was not conducive to well-being to be asked to visit the local police station, even with a UK passport: accidents 'happened'.

* just about any service - legal, moral or otherwise - was available at any hour for a trivial charge

You might be surprised Stewamax. Take a car these days into town from Istanbul, Ankara, Fethiye [etc] airports and the roads will be high quaility. Where they get the money from vs their broken economy who knows. All these roads seem to be maintained on a rolling basis and are the exceptions - go up 'into the hills' and it's a different matter, pot-holes galore.

Little changes. It's not just 'VIPs' that have drivers, to navigate the roads and any troubles en route. Refer back to that vid and perhaps it's clear why, that's not a one-off, that Mad-Max atmosphere was not unusual.

On a day off, I got my driver to take me from Izmir to Efes (Ephesus).
Quite how the car's suspension survived the journey is a mystery; perhaps they were built with ex-military parts.
