New pub name
Is it time to move away from the copy and paste of rooms from tmf and have our own name and voice or hold onto the tradition.
This is trying to consider new members who don't know the history.

Re: New pub name
Stooz,
Could you add "The Snug" as an option. I think that retains the right mood but without the legacy.
You could go all contemporary and shut down the old man boozer and replace it with something more sophisticated like the Lemon Drop Cocktail Lounge

Re: New pub name
I hope that whatever change is made (if any) it has all of its words Capitalised, it being a name. (It would irritate the hell out of mildly OCD types like me if it were not. C.

Those big bars on the gtraphic are impressive - showing lots of votes - Except look at the numbers - six votes! Its amazing what scaling can do.

Re: New pub name
I'm guessing that this change is because Simon/Beerpig is a rare poster on his own board these days?
I would prefer it is kept as it is but if that is not possible, my preference is 'The Snug'.
Best,

Not particularly. It is more because the name is a legacy of TMF. There's nothing wrong in that per se, but it is off-putting for new people coming to the site who won't have a clue who or what Beerpig is or was. BTW no offence to Beerpig.

Fair enough.
In that case, my suggestion for the new name is 'The Gym'.

Re: New pub name
I'm assuming that, if we keep the original name, the apostrophe will remain (and not the version with the missing apostrophe in the selection list). Otherwise I can forecast rage in Pedant's Place.

'Ow many Pedants?"
I felt sure I could guarantee one Pedant filled with rage, but further to your response I can see we at least have two, so I'm happy to oblige with Pedants' Place.

Re: New pub name
Most pubs have a snug but this is the only one I visit that has Beerpig's Snug which makes it friendlier somehow.

Re: New pub name
Currently its neck and neck - 18 votes each for the two top contenders. Definitely more exciting than SPOTY. Especially since I was banned from entering Boris in the SPOTY stakes. And I should add that I have no intention of requesting that the board be renamed Boris's Snug.

Re: New pub name
Was there any thought to if the vote was very close? I mean, if it's 48% for it to stay as Beerpig's Snug and 52% for it to leave the Beerpig out, what happens then? Will people who don't want the the change be berated and labelled Beerpigheadeds?

The referendum is just advisory and not legally binding so no need to worry

Another Beerexit?
If its a near-tie, surely we should make a partial combination of the top two contenders - e.g. BeerSnug or PigSnug

I'd go with The Sty.

Re: New pub name
Gone for Beerpig's Snug. I am not sure why if someone new came along and didn't understand our name, they only have to ask. But yes, if the moderators and originators here feel that change is good and possibly needed without the need to look back in the past, it's your board to enact this change. Not sure that the name is such a big deal, it's the posters therein that make it, hence no change for my vote, but being overseas and not a prolific poster, I don't think my vote should count anyway.
ps. As a matter of interest, how many ex TMFoolers have come here as opposed to new posters that had nothing to do with the TMF?

I don't know the answer, but anecdotally I'd say 95% will be ex-TMF users. Some of those who are new have commented that it is strange to have the Off-Topic chat stuff at the top of the Forum. Although I'd been a member of TMF since about 2000, I always felt that boards based on the name of another member were like a private club and I wasn't sure if I was invited. Think of it like visiting a new town or village, you go into a pub and find that everyone there knows each other and turn round to look at you with a "you ain't from these parts" expression on their faces. I'm not saying that this board is like that, but that's the impression names like this can give .... perhaps just to a gentle soul like me
