Left or right?
This is quite an interesting quiz to find out where you stand on the political spectrum - https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-in ... e-you-quiz
Somewhat to my surprise I was classed as being most similar to Emmanuel Macron. I would have put myself somewhat to his right, so I've obviously been reading too much Guardian!

Re: Left or right?
Hmm. I am slightly north west of, but most like Angela Merkel, which is a pity, because she is past it and on her way out. I hope I am neither.

Re: Left or right?
I fall in the exact middle of the populist left, which doesn't really surprise me.
Glad to say that I am least like Trump.
Can't comment on being most like Andrés Manuel López Obrador as I know little about him.

Me too! And a relief to find I was classed as 1000 miles to the left of Trump

Re: Left or right?
On the outer limits of non-populist, bang in the middle of left. I am so far from the "nearest" leader to me (Macron) as to make a comparison worthless.
An outlier even amongst the Guardian's audience? Probably about right, and even more of an outlier for my age.

Re: Left or right?
It put me in the middle of the non-populist left (more 'non-populist ' than 'left') and I was also most similar to Macron. Happily, I was most dissimilar to Trump!

Re: Left or right?
'Populism' is a bit like 'Neoliberalism' one of those words that people use a lot, but everyone seems to think it means something different (me included). Guardian's definition of populism is a belief that shadowy elites organise to frustrate the will of the people - which seems fair enough. Having worked in government, the idea that civil servants are actively engaged in any kind of conspiracy to subvert the will of the people has always struck me as pretty ludicrous, so may account for my high non-populist score.

I, too, am least similar to Trump. I am, apparently, most like AMLO.

Re: Left or right?
According to the quiz, I am most similar to Viktor Orbán, the "Hungarian PM for 12 of the last 20 years. His party campaigns attack 'foreign influences' on Hungary, including the EU and the philanthropist George Soros."
Strange, I thought i was right wing.
In fact, having just worked out that UK socialist politics is essentially about revenge, I am not sure whether left-wing counts for anything constructive.

Victor Orbán here as well. Too bad I had never heard of him.
I'd identify as libertarian - governments mostly do harm and people should be left alone as much as possible, and taxed as lightly as possible. Meaning I am conservative on economic issues and liberal on social issues.
I do not see lefties as evil. Just mentally ill

Re: Left or right?
Heh. Another Macron here.
On the whole, I think I'm comfortable with that. That is to say, he's one of the least bad/offensive among elected politicians - so far as I know. He'd have my vote way ahead of any of our UK parties as they now stand.
Most dissimilar: Trump, same as everyone else. That's more interesting: I detest Trump, but I don't think I'd call him the biggest evil but for the fact that his country has such fearsome power. I wonder if that hooks in to a Grauniad anti-Trump agenda: reassure readers that he's the other side of Us and Them?

Re: Left or right?
Most similar to Angela Merkel has been leader of the centre-right, conservative CDU since 2000. She has been praised as a consensus-builder and criticised as a technocrat.
I thought I was further right but a compassionate Conservative.
Least similar to Bernie Sanders is a leftwing independent senator for Vermont. He caucuses with the Democrats and in 2016 sought the Democratic nomination for the presidential election. He has a vociferous grassroots following.

Re: Left or right?
Yes have to agree with Lootman. It's not a question of Right or Left, more about Right or Wrong? It's all very simplistic though

Re: Left or right?
I'm most like Obama too. I found the questions silly. Just a bit of fun.
I worked in France for 10 years. France seems to have a left-wing image, but in private I found them very right-wing and intensely nationalistic. Not a criticism though. I was quite jealous about the way that they genuinely cared about their own citizens and put them first.

Macron is firmly internationalist, yet puts his own people first. Thus showing by example that the two are not incompatible. Certain other leaders could do well to draw inspiration from that.
