A Festive Break

#192242

Postby Howyoudoin » January 9th, 2019, 8:00 pm

Thought that we'd managed to plan the Wedding down to the very last detail, even though I would've been happy getting married by a Witch Doctor in Haiti and the Mrs wanted a ceremony slightly bigger.

But now, we haven't been able to get in contact with the reception venue since the New Year because 'we are on a Festive break'. That is the message we receive back when we try and email or telephone the venue.

Jesus.

I know that some people have extended Christmas breaks but, really?

Slightly worried now that my choice of Wedding reception venue has gone tits up, by which I mean bankrupt.

If that's the case, it's back to Plan A as far as i'm concerned. We're all going to the local Italian restaurant after the vows are done and dusted. You can have whatever you want to eat or drink for 6 hours and then you can go home.

A pub which I frequent each month has closed this week Mon-Thurs so that the owners can have a break. Last year they did it just after New Year for the same reason.

It's probably the same sort of reason.

The restaurant trade dies once the new year arrives. People binge and party like there's no tomorrow in the lead up to Christmas and New Year then tomorrow comes and they get on the scales, they are partied out and over weight so gym memberships get their annual influx of new years resolutions and everyone goes on a diet.

It's a sensible time for restaurants to take a holiday, redecorate or do whatever they need to get ready for the new season. With a bit of luck your new venue should be back and raring to go by the time of the reception. I would have expected them to have notified clients with future bookings about the situation though.

Stop worrying. No, wait, it's a wedding, everything must cause worry, them's the rules.

I don't know if they do Christmas parties, but if they do, they've probably been non stop since end of November, maybe including Christmas Day and Boxing Day lunches, then a few days to gear it up for New Years Eve, then nothing. Nothing until the next wedding. If no one is back by say the 16th, then maybe you should get a bit twitchy. Even then, maybe they all go to Thailand for the month or something!

6 weeks.

The good news is that we've heard this morning that they are back next Monday.

I'm in the wrong job! :)

I'm sure there are worse jobs than being in the restaurant business but it seems like a rotten job to me. Terrible hours for generally low pay, they can keep it.

It's not a restaurant, it's a listed building/clubhouse but I get your point. I was just being facetious. :)

Only an idiot gets married this close to Christmas and New Year.

It was my anniversary yesterday.
