My wife got a text on her mobile from the government passport service. It wasn't a scam, and it actually had a link to useful information.
Her passport expires in February 2020, but was issued in July 2009 with about 7 months additional validity carried over from her old one.
The link* explained that in the event of a no deal brexit, one should have 6 months validity left on a passport for travel to the EU, and that extra months over 10 years may not count.
So if we plan to go to an EU country after 29/3/2019 (which is quite likely), we should get it renewed straight away and lose the best part of a year's validity.
Grrrrrr.

Haha. I guess it's the combination of losing the extra validity, plus 6 months more, plus it being to the EU for goodness sake, that I didn't put together.
Of course we might come to our senses...
