Alex Salmond
Apparently he has just been arrested and appeared in Court this afternoon. How have the mighty fallen. Not proof of guilt of course.

14 charges in total, 2 of a very serious nature.
Some on this site have said before that because a woman/women wouldn't lie about these accusations, he is guilty.

Re: Alex Salmond
I have no liking for Alex Salmond, but at the moment I'll accept he is not guilty until proven otherwise. I also believe that women should not suffer sexual harassment from anyone, no matter how powerful.
However his arrest got me thinking about a case in 1977, and of the one-sided nature of the action he is accused of.
In 1977 an American Beauty Queen (female) pursued a young Mormon Missionary (male) to the UK. She kidnapped him, tied him to a bed and (reputedly) raped him. The newspapers had a field day, and most UK citizens couldn't stop laughing. She was arrested, and charged with kidnapping and assault - but apparently in the UK at that time, there was no offence of rape committed because it was a woman assaulting a man! She skipped bail and returned to the USA. We made no attempt to extradite her. I suspect a number of UK males wished it could have been them that was "raped" by a Beauty Queen.
Times change, and probably we are a bit less sexist than we were in my youth, but I still suspect that a woman making improper advances to a man would receive less attention than vice versa, and I suspect it would be more difficult for the man to come forward with a complaint.
For those of you too young to remember the Beauty Queen case, here is a link :-

Re: Alex Salmond
I detest Alex Salmond but I really, really hate trial by media. As a woman I hate to say this but a lot of people seem to be intent on jumping on the "me too" bandwagon, a state of affairs which doesn't bode well for any man in the public eye. If it's proved that he is guilty fine, if he's found innocent then, unfortunately, there'll still be a lot of people who will go down the "there's no smoke without fire" route. Whichever way this goes he's on a hiding to nothing.
