You may have heard the sad news that Gordon Banks passed away overnight, aged 81.
One of my childhood heros, I have felt rather emotional this morning, and been trawling the news sites, UK and abroad. It seems he was respected everywhere, by the jounalists and the BTL comments.
We all know the save against Pele from the 1970 World Cup, and wondered how Banks got to the far post so quickly. From this clip that I had never seen before, he was there so quickly he was actually waiting for Pele's header. The first view is the new wide angle, the second is the clip we all know.

Re: Gordon Banks - RIP
Somewhere upstairs I have his autograph.
I wrote to him in hospital when he had his car accident. I got a post card in return.
I followed Stoke City because of Gordon Banks.
A great player. A great man.
