Exam success!

Just emerged from my 18th Edition Wiring Regs exam. 100% Yay!

Son seems fairly uninterested in my elation so I thought I'd tell you guys. As well as The Snug it has also driven me into The Blue Anchor in Crowborough for a celebratory pint of Guiness.

One in, one out, and one to earth - how long did the exam take you?

Only kidding Chris - well done - enjoy your Guinness!

Oops, my typo, must be the Guinness. The exam was two hours long (60 multiple choice questions).

Thanks for the recs guys, makes it all worthwhile (well apart from the ability to continue earning).

You can now be sure you will never be out of work.

Well done.

(We used to put our graduate EEs through this exam as an insurance policy for the rest of their lives)

Ah, multiple choice questions. So there is a finite possibility that you just struck lucky with your answers ;)

There is a notice on the wall in our fishing hut:-
Catch one Fish - Luck
Catch two Fish - Coincidence
Catch three Fish - Skill
But some one has scored out Skill and replaced it with - More Luck
kiloran - was it you who altered it?

I'm working on the basis that pure luck alone would have produced a 33.3R% mark as one answer in multiple-guess is usually so daft that even the dimmest of candidates can see it for what it is.

As it was I spent the first hour racing through all 60 answering all of them but flagging all those I wasn't 100% certain about. I spent the second hour revisiting my flagged ones and dwelling on each of them. It is an "open book" exam so all the answers are in the regs somewhere but, in case you don't know it, there are 560 pages of finely printed type so the problem reduced itself to gaining access to the correct information.

Ha Ha, it's what electricians have to go through to remain current. Thanks. :)

I know I'll get my coat

On a more serious note though - well done and I hope you helped yourself to an extra half

Top marks, eh?

You can't say that it went down to the wire, though.

Is that direct or alternating current?

I used to say, and still believe, I could've passed O-level in any language that uses our alphabet[1].

That was on the basis of scoring towards the upper end of 95-100% in the multiple-choice part of the exam, where the (english) questions made it blindingly obvious with or without any understanding of the language itself. And picking up a few random marks elsewhere.

My brother demonstrated a somewhat-comparable principle when he got grade A in English Literature without having read the set texts.

[1] The only language I actually took was German. We had supposedly studied French for longer, but our teacher never turned up, so we spent lessons playing bridge instead. And I was much more interested in German, primarily 'cos so much of the greatest music is German.

There might be resistance, due to capacitor constraints.

I was told yesterday that the first amendment to the 18th is already well underway. Better start saving up for the next set of books, course, and exam, which will be needed some time after the inevitable second amendment. C.
