Still used quite a lot in the legal profession - in the sense of 'something missing' as opposed to a physical gap.
I remember when I first encountered the word: Mervyn Peake used it several times in the Gormenghast books

Usually used in emails by certain people when they really mean 'reply' or 'respond' or 'come back to me'.

That used to really get up my goat.

Yes, I see 'revert' a lot in the same context. Very annoying, but not as bad as having people 'reaching out' to me.

Funnily enough, that reads just fine to me. As a software developer, I do a lot of work within the framework of a change control system, where reverting a change is perfectly normal, and a phrase like we will revert immediately means exactly what it says.

South Hill Park is OK. I have seen bands and comics in the cellar bar, attended their summer music festival at least once. The terrace bar is a good place for a summer snack and beverage when it's sunny.

Likewise in telecoms for network changes/software updates.

Most technical fields have their own language/syntax which insiders understand but may be confusing to others.
As an example;
"Site Z123A is alarming" - doesn't mean there is something alarming about that site, it means the site is showing one or more alarms on the monitoring systems

For me it's when people ask you, in an email, to reply 'by return'. By return used to mean by return of post, i.e. the next post going the other way (make the boy wait and hand him a penny...). There is no 'return of post' any more (presumably for a few hundred years), plus with an email you can send them any flippin' time you like, it's sort of the point of them!

Wellllll...if you meant lexicon..which is the ENTIRE vocabulary fair enough. Glossary is usually a better fit for business documents, being an alphabetical list of terms used with descriptions

I attended a social event at a pub, The Penny Farthing.
Hardly anyone else attending had heard of a farthing, let alone what the coin looked like.

Mind you, farthing became indelibly stuck in my memory when as a youngster I fell out with the owner of our local sweetshop. Aniseed balls were 4 for a penny (1d), he'd refused to sell me one aniseed ball because he hadn't got change of a halfpenny.
