And will surely break through.

With the £ losing value, things naturally rise when measured in £.

The FTSE all-time high is just under 8000, yesno? So to surpass that when measured in something with intrinsic value (say, pints of milk) it would have to be somewhere like nudging 13000 today.

The problem with Mars Bars is that they're forever changing the size of them to hit a certain price point.

Should stick to something with a consistent size over the years, like Creme Eggs.

The Romans were growing grape-vines in Scotland 1500+ years ago. Before anthropogenic warming emissions. Before the GM crops of today again very recently made growing vines there just about possible.
You don't have temperature records going back to Roman times to support the assertion, do you/they? :)

I agree with a poster's comment
"If I drew that in Art Class, I would be sent to the Principal's Office"

Just watching the Ben Miller programme on Channel 5. He is revisiting Nantwich, where he grew up, "No place like home".

He has just visited a "Secret Bunker" where provision was made for an underground control post in the event of nuclear war. This must have been the site of RAF Hack Green, a radar station for Ground Controlled Interceptions dating from the 1940s.

When I finished my reserve service as a fighter controller, in 1957, I was given details of my "War Posting", which was to Hack Green. I had a railway warrant to Nantwich and instructions to report there in an emergency with a general call up of reservists. I never went there but did visit similar sites during my reserve service. No mention was made of this earlier function of the site.

What an unexpected reminder of the past.

You know, watching Zelensky talk, it's almost impossible to imagine how you'd react if your country was invaded by a foreign state.

I guess the Falklands in 82 would be the closest to an invasion of our country and sure, the UK has fought wars abroad for a common cause....but if it was your land can you imagine how you would feel? Well you'd fight like terriers wouldn't you? Like demons. No hesitation whatsoever. Even in WW2 we were fighting in other countries - with the exception of Battle of Britain, and those young pilots had no fear despite overwhelming odds. I'm reminded of the Polish Spitfire pilots who flew in WW2, repelling an invading force - and by all accounts they were mental. They just wanted to kill the enemy and would do anything to do that.

Almost all of Europe has experienced invasion in modern times. In fact quite a chunk of the world has (with the notable exceptions on the UK and the Americas I think). I think invasion, even when repelled, fundementally changes a country.

Perhaps that's the difference between us and the Europeans?

Who knows.

Anyway, I don't know what the point of that ramble was, but it must be horrendous being invaded.
