I did read once that the only 18 stone man ever to ride a Derby winner was Lester Piggot's cellmate.

Ok, I'm (more than) a little slow to the party (ok,ok, very, very slow), but see having a login to Firefox*.....just remember to log out of Firefox using a machine that is used by more than yourself.

It'll change your life.

(Other browsers, I'm sure have similar features)

At first I was scared, I was petrified of having a 'login' to a browser where my passwords etc were saved and I still type in my personal finance website passwords because of this.

Plusnet* have just told me that my Unlimited Fibre + Line rental deal is going up with inflation to £36.52pm (I'm not in a contract)....but in the same email they have a special offer - the same for £25.99pm (18 month contract).

So I log into my Plusnet Account and....they have an exclusive offer for me. The same deal again but for £22.99pm (18 month contract). maybe I should log in again tomorrow.

And I've just got my car insurance (and tax....£20 per annum :D ) renewal through - £22 less than last year (per year!)

*Before anyone starts, I like Plusnet. They've done me proud. 27-40mb download is plenty for me thank you very much

And there isn't a whole lotta choice where I am anyway

......but everytime I try to switch to the deal, it logs me out <sigh>

Ah-ha....apparently the £22.99 deal was for new customers only, but faced with my awesome negotiating powers* she caved and gave me the deal.

*I asked.

The latest MacDonalds burger advert where people (adults included) are jumping up and down and sqeaking with uncontrolled excitement at having one of these thing plop into their lap.

'Were back' the ad proclaims.

I'd like to think it was fake (it being an advert 'n that) but somehow I don't think it is.

I had a McDonalds burger type thing years ago. Filet-o-fish I think it was called. It was okay (apart from the sauce) (and the name)
but I’d sooner have had a sardine sandwich.

On the last day of holiday in the south of France yesterday, we drove through Monaco on the way to Nice airport. Found out by text, which I only read afterwards, that Monaco isn't covered by the EU free roaming on mobiles, and data was 36p per megabyte. So I just happened to be streaming Ken Bruce on Radio 2 on the BBC Sounds app on my phoned piped to the car radio by bluetooth. Checked my mobile account today and it's cost me a fiver!

Sheesh!

Sadly, I have to confess that I have..... 4 years in the 80's. Several glasses of the local wine generally eased the pain.

Up at the crack of silly o'clock for a 5.26am sunrise appointment at the top of Ben Rinnes. The best cup of tea and home made scone ever at the top with a view that made one....well....slightly emotional if I'm honest. A couple of Pics to follow.

...then back down to see level for a plate of eggs Benedict at our favourite (and only just reopened) harbourside cafe. Weather glorious.

.....And it's only 10.30. Plenty of time before watching a pole sitting French lunatic with huge chip on his shoulder at todays Motogp.

Oooooh.

Biltong. One of those words where you think you know roughly what it means, but you never quite felt the call to really find out.

So I am indebted to Mr Wikipedia for informing me that biltong is the Dutch for "buttock tongue". Don't think it's going on my Tesco order this week. :?

And another one. The leader of the free world is campaigning to get the water flow limits on shower heads abolished, because the current limit of 2.5 US gallons per minute isn't enough to clean the presidential hairdo. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53761744
"So showerheads - you take a shower, the water doesn't come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn't come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair - I don't know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect,"

Much hilarity from all sides, apparently. And not just because it seems to suggest that the President stands under a shower when he wants to wash his hands. There's also the probability that raising the flow to ten or fifteen gallons a minute "would wash you out of the bathroom".

Actually, I think they might be onto something there. D'you think fifty gallons a minute would be enough to wash out the presidential brain?

On seeing pictures of him prior to his election I leaned towards the opinion that he was bewigged.

The rigidly unvarying but slightly odd appearance led to this conclusion, though I couldn’t reconcile this with why a bloke with lots of money would have a wig that looked like a wig.

Definitely not a wig. Nobody could make a wig look this bad.

As me and the missus climbed Meall a' Bhuachaille...

https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/corbett ... huachaille

...on Boxing Day 2019, I said to her that I was going to try and climb the equivalent of Mount Everest in 2020 (29,029 feet). Now that doesn't sound particularly taxing to most regular hill climbers, but it it is to me.

It would mostly be done via my local hillock @ 2759 feet,

https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/corbetts/ben-rinnes

....but where the opportunity arose and something bigger came along then I would add that in. I wasn't going to include anything less than a Corbett......

The Corbetts are the mountains in Scotland between 2500 and 3000 feet high, with at least 500 feet of descent on all sides.

If I did it all via Ben Rinnes, then I'd need to climb it 10.32 times, so say 11 times to be safe. I wasn't going to do it in rubbish conditions. I'm not that hardcore, but I would try to get various different conditions it (hence the early morning ascent last weekend)

January started with an ascent late in the month in spring like conditions
February was a no go. Pretty much permanent snow to the base.
Late March was good to go for an ascent in good conditions, but with snow for the last 200 feet or so.

Then the virus came.

The next ascent was in early July followed by Sgor Gaoith (a Munro) in late July

https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/munros/sgor-gaoith.php

....... and another Ben Rinnes last weekend. Total 2020 Footage = 14704

So another 14325 to go, or 5.19 times. So 6 times.....Or 4 times plus a Munro.

It's back on!

(now I know someone is going to say that the elevation is not the same as the prominence but I don't care)

Ya need to start from sea level!

'twas late Autumn when I moved to central Italy, so my first ventures into the mountains were in winter. When I joined the @work mountain club, the next jaunt was the annual January ascent of Monte Circeo, starting from sea level. And ending on the beach, where some of us[1] went for a bracing dip.

[1] OK, I was the only adult to go for a swim. But some of the children in the group also went in.

You intrigued me with the "height of Everest" thing. We're just back from a walking holiday in the Maritime Alps, and I've just added up the ascent as reported by Viewranger for the 8 days walking we did - an average of 1121m of ascent per day for a total of 8968m, or just over 100m higher than the summit of Everest.

(Past experience says that Viewranger exaggerates the reported ascent by 10-20%, so we probably didn't quite make it, but still...)

As I've maybe said before, there is an Everest type challenge on Rinnes every year (or there used to be) where a group of headbangers climb and descent the height of ME in one go (without oxygen too)

I'm just doing it over a year to get the different views but I guess I could do it in 10 days (or if I went into the Cairngorms or, as you have done, the Alps)

It just gives me a goal.
