I lived in a second floor flat for 17 years. I reckon I did Everest and K2 in total... mostly without oxygen, and occasionally drunk.

Hmmm. Second floor could be 5-6 metres. 17 years is 6205 days. So just once a day gives you that twice over. And you must've carried provisions to stock a fridge, and occasionally even much heavier stuff!

Wasn't it you who said you suffered vertigo?

Today's Austrian MotoGP. Two bikes touch at 200mph sending both bikes across the next right hand turn - into the path of the bikes that are there. How lucky was Valentino Rossi (yellow helmet)?

Scotland looks set to become a space faring nation as well as a nuclear power with the the Sutherland satellite launch site having been given planning permission.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... s-53834962

To misquote Captain Ramius of the Soviet Ballistic Missile submarine Red October...

It reminds me of the heady days of Andy Stewart and 'Donald where's yer troosers' when the world trembled at the shound of our mushic - Now they will tremble again - at the sound of our rocketsh.

Interesting fact (maybe). The only successful space launch from UK territory was only a couple of years ago - a US Navy Destroyer launched a test ICBM from near St Kilda as part of a NATO training exercise. Happy to be corrected on that one though!

There's a very good reason space pads tend to be situated near the equator. Putting one in Scotland would seem to suggest politics trumps science yet again!

The only reason I can think of is the amount of fuel to get it into orbit.

... .but that doesn't matter because our satellites will go around the up and down way, not the across way.

Those ones are sh*te!

I had to use the Orbcomm LEO cluster for a telemetry project once getting data from the rear end of NZ.
- if you got the info on to satellite heading the wrong direction you wouldn't know until it had reached Alaska a few hours later (the other way took a few minutes to see a station in Australia)
- data plan was only $2.50 a month and $22 per KByte of data (which was about 10p per character at the time)

- sd

And this weeks contender in the COVID19 holiday hilarity roulette is...:

(rummages in box full of paper slips...)

(Holds up slip)......Portugal!

Holidaymakers will face "chaos and hardship" if coronavirus quarantine measures are reintroduced for those arriving in the UK from Portugal, a travel industry leader has warned.

In the words of 'Diehard' character, Agent Johnson (not the other one)

Shut it down. Shut it down now.

Just for a laugh.

Thailand’s king has reconciled with his royal consort, whom he stripped of her titles last year after accusing her of seeking to undermine his official wife, the country’s queen.

The restoration of Sineenatra Wongvajirabhakdi to the good graces of King Maha Vajiralongkorn was confirmed by an official announcement published in the Royal Gazette.

The announcement, dated August 29, said she was being given back her royal and military titles.

It sounds like 'You strip me of titles, I shut the candy store'.

Eventually the bloke will cave.

In the far reaches of the universe, two black holes merged and sent shockwaves in all directions. getting weaker and weaker. 7 billion years later, yes 7 BILLION (7,000,000,000), we are able to detect this event. Just try to imagine how long 7 Billion years is. Even longer than the time it might take for simsqu to appreciate courgettes.

My mind is truly boggled. In fact I went "oooooooh". Isn't science wonderful?

Mountain runner Donnie Campbell has broken the record for the fastest solo round of of all 282 Munros in Scotland by more than a week.

The 35-year-old, from Inverness, completed the round in just 31 days and 23 hours.

Pretty brutal. But he would have got a rest from time to time driving between the hills....hold on though.

He ran up each mountain before running, walking, cycling or kayaking to the next one.

...it goes on to say....

He climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest 14 times. He ran 1,422km (883 miles) and cycled 1,443km (896 miles).

Interesting logistics there: a bike and a kayak to deal with? How does he transport one (not to mention the camping/survival gear implied by several weeks out) when using the other?

Assuming it's not a massive cheat, with sherpas doing all the work?
